Need Advise!

Hi All
So some idiot in a truck slammed into my car while it was parked in a car port! The car is in bits, it was a hit and run, and now my insurance probably wont cover it. Any ideas on what to do with the car? Any one know of a good junk yard in Arizona that will pay for it? Any idea how much I could get? Any advise would be really appreciated. |

If the 1st, you are screwed, and might get $1k for it selling, maybe $2k parting it out. If the 2nd, go file a report! |
Did you file a police report? Did you call your insurance company?
The comprehensive policy of your car insurance should cover it. |
I don't know what to tell you about the car/insurance except sorry to hear about it but, I will say that you may want to change the title to "Advice" before you get flammed for a spelling error. Some people are ruthless. :suspect:

Exactly.
As others stated above, I don't see why insurance won't cover it...unless of course you don't have the enough coverage in your policy. Is your car paid off? Many people immediately drop full coverage from their insurance policy soon after paying off the car loan. If you only have liability, then that's bad news unfortunately. Also, how did that happen?!?! The driver of the other vehicle must have been really drunk to slam into your car under one of those "covered" parking spots in apartment buildings. |

Why won't they cover it? You said 'probably', which means you haven't tried. So that means you either don't have insurance or don't understand how it works.

I just read your reply.
If you have liability only, then you are in trouble unfortunately. Why did you have liability only!!!!!!!!!!! The car looked in great shape. |
much cheaper :dunno:

$1,000.00? I would think he could get $3,000.00 easy selling it as is unless it has a ton of miles. Depending on the unseen damage on the right side it looks repairable but it will cost a few grand easy to fix.
looks like that pole may have bent the frame |
Liability only. Oh dear. Your not going to get any help from your insurance company.
Very sorry. |

I have insurance, but only liability. I have filed a claim, but don't expect it to be covered. It was a hit and run so no chance of the other driver coming forward with their insurance info. The cops said that it is very unlikely that they will find the driver.
You are the second person in a month to have a wreck and only have liability coverage. It's a hard lesson learned but who buys a sports car and only gets liability coverage. Murphy's law is a bitch. If you cannot afford full coverage I doubt you will be able to pay to fix the damage. |

The car is fully paid for. I had to change my coverage policy to liability in order to try and save money. Guess that turned out to be a bad idea. There doesn't seem to be any damage to the engine or front of the car.
How it happened...I had the car under the port and I was checking my oil levels. A women in pick up truck came around the corner and slammed right into me. Luckily I jumped back from the curb as I was standing in front of the car with my feet between the bumper and the curb. She then floored it and scrapped along the back of my car only to hit another car parked a few spots down. The driver then sped off down the road. I only got a partial on the plate. Cops said the partial was no good. |

Many people drop full coverage immediately after paying the car loan off. I think that's good ONLY in some circumstances. Of course, it depends on the value of the car at the time - which coincidently is a gamble when it comes to the RX-8. But unless that car had a trizillion miles, from the pic it looked like it should have been insured a little higher. |
Mine has been paid off for almost 2 years, still full coverage, $0 deductible on comprehensive, $300 on collision, $87 a month.
Liability only is NOT worth it. |
good thing you didnt get hurt then
no cameras around? |

Cops said the partial was no good. Sorry to hear about the situation, and about the insurance situation. Since liability won't cover anything, I would try to fix the car if funds allow. If not, I'm sure you can sell it as a whole or part it out easily. In the future; I would consider keeping the insurance coverage unless the car is absolutely worthless (way too many miles, lots of damages/blemishes to begin with, etc.) Any money you saved by dropping the insurance coverage will be gone now trying to repair the car, or trying to get a new one :( |
Calling the cops won't do you any good, I doubt the lady had insurance if she ran.
