n00blet question. how to tell if its sport or non-sport
something in the VIN possibly? I know I do not have a GT 8, but was curious how to tell if it is still a sport or non-sport. getting ready to order my rotors and it calls for a different front rotor between the 2 models. thought MTs were sport, and all ATs were non-sport, but talking to dozer he said that his friend has an AT sport. so if my original question is in fact true, blame him for this thread :O
|
yes put the balme on me!
|
Different rotor because sports/non-sports has different size wheels.
the 16" and 18" if u have 18", u have a sport. if u have 16", u have a basic. AT has GT as well. |
hmmmm...really cus Atilla said his at was a sport...and it came with 16s
|
thanks nycgps! do have 18s, so ya i have sport.
|
o really ? ask your friend again is he/she sure about that. :)
but what does it matter. the bigger rotor wont fit into 16" wheels so if he has 18" wheels, just get the bigger rotor, it will fit nicely. and the original question, yes the VIN number can tell you what trim you have. |

ya.. that vin report gave me nothing i didnt already know.. left trim and everything blank.. just stated its a MT 6 spd RWD 4 door car.
|
there are other sites about VIN codes too. Im just giving an example.
oh, u can also call Mazda and they will tell you straight up. |
all of them come back with this type of response
Model Specific: 4-8 FE173 Unknown tried 4 different sites.. oh well |
"Sport" is just a trim level. Oddly enough, it's the lowest trim level, and comes with the smaller rims and no DSC. From there you have "Touring," which has DSC and larger rims, and "Grand Touring" which is the same as touring only with leather interior.
These might have changed over the years, so somebody can correct me if I'm wrong about this, but I'm pretty certain this is how it was when I bought mine last year. |

^This is correct. I have had a Base 2005 AT and now I have a Sport 2005 AT.
Base,, 16" wheels, smaller front brake rotors, no fogs, no DSC. Sport,, 18" wheels, 12.97 brake rotors, Fog lights, DSC. |

not on the older ones. you had base. sport added DSC, HID, fogs, 18's and suspension for auto. from there touring gave you a moonroof and bose. then GT gave you leather and power seats and all that fancy crap.
|
18's means sport
|
either there was a change in mazda's model line up in '06, or someone doesnt have their facts right.
I have an '06 MT, WITHOUT DCS/foglights/anything special (no spoiler even), with 18'' rims, but then again, I bought it used, so, donno.... |
All mt up to 08 had 18" wheels, bigger front rotors and a sport tuned suspension. If you got a base 06 mt, you had to get the sport package option to get hid lights, fog lights and dsc.

ahhh ok... sorry for my noob-ness :D
