My sunvisor isn't broken
 

I use it all the time, up and down, up and down, over to the side window, back again, and… nothing. The stupid thing won't break. (And oh yeah, those little holes? I know they're supposed to let sunlight stream thru and blind me, but get this… I know this is gonna sound crazy, but I use 'em to see when the red light changes—even though the visor is down!) Damn you, Mazda!! Why me? WHY ME?!?

Want me to break it?

Yeh, Mazda should issue a recall! This is a safety issue! After all, I just dont know when my visor is going to break!

Note: Mazda has just issued a TSB for broken visors. The holes come in very handy for straining pasta and the lighted mirror makes a nice cheese plate.

well, you're obviously doing something wrong. I figured out how to break mine, and I hardly ever use it.

i put mine down every time i park it at work (for the sunshade), never had an issue with it, still original after 2.5 years.

It goes to the side?? I have one word for you - TINT!!

I went to put my sun visor down last week and the entire top seam had cracked open. I couldn't get the darn thing to go up or down and where it was suck, almost completely blocked my view. I took it over to Rosenthal Nissan/Mazda and they fixed the visor under the warranty and they did the recall on the engine at the same time. Now the car and the visor are as good as new.

Its good for grinding cheese.

After you break it, you can use it to serve cheese and crackers!

If I had an RX8 I'm sure the sunvisor would be a piece of crap, so shame on you Mazda.

My visor is flawless.

Why are some visors flawless while others, apparently, break if you just look at 'em the wrong way? If it's a design flaw, what is it, exactly, that triggers visor failure? Number of times flipped? Age of visor? Ambient temperature? Length of time in direct sunlight? Letting it "spring" back rather than flipping it back gently?

My visor has never broken. I've never flooded. My mpg is close to the EPA estimate. My motor runs so well I've been procrastinating on doing the recall. I have no water in my headlights or taillights. I use dino oil, and I need a quart about every 3,000 miles. My radio knob has not fallen off. I've passed Mustangs and 350Zs at the track.

School kids stare slack-jawed when I drive by. Middle-age men glance and quickly pretend they're not looking. People at stoplights and in parking lots ask me questions about it. People at work joke about the "hot rod."

Ditto here. One EXCELLENT Sun Visor. Actually make that TWO Excellent Sun Visors. No headlight water, no radio knob issue, nothing. I did, however, flood once. Took advantage of the tow to have a recall work done and she's better than new now!

Eight months of ownership, 5K miles and I haven't had ANY of those problems either. The button on my console cover is a little crooked. My front rotors were grooved. That's it! I'm getting 19.5 mpg. I haven't even added a full quart of oil. Reading this forum, I sometimes think I must have a different car—no way I can be driving the poorly designed, underpowered, unreliable Mazda disaster known as the RX-8. But I am!

I have a new 2006 RX-8 purchased 2 weeks ago. I now have 700 miles on it and, strangely, have already had my driver's side sunvisor replaced. Up until a week ago, I had not used the sunvisor. After reading some of the issues I read here on this site (damn you RX-8 club! :)), I took a look at my sunvisors and my driver's side visor began to split along the seam, as others have described. Had it replaced and no complaints here. Other than that, the vehicle has been excellent, seems solid, no lack of power (seems fine to me), and overall seems like a pretty decent vehicle.

Regarding power, I just think the power band is different in a vehicle like this. I had a 2003 Maxima 6 spd prior to this car and, while it would "plant" you in your seat at times, it had a peak and then would taper off over a narrower RPM range. The RX-8 accomplishes the goal of "quick" accelleration in a different fashion with a torque curve that ramps up slower and stays relatively flat through a wider RPM range. This translates to no "push in the seat" acceleration but, nonetheless seems quick enough to me. Curves, that is a whole other topic.

Of course, I do have little negative comments here and there (as with any car) but overall, so far, so good - I am quite satisfied with this vehicle.
