OH My RX in -9 degree temps!

Ok, so im from north of Cinci, in OH and of course its been FREEZING the past few days. Woke up for class this morning and read the temp guage on the car and it read -9!!! woww..i was thankful it started! Anyway..i noticed when its veryy cold outside i get several different complications with my 8..
1-Cranks more than usual, takes longer to start.
2-Revs up and down, from 1k to 4k rpms, until warm.
3-Lumpy Tires for first few min.
4-CD player DOES NOT work at all til warmed up.
5-Check engine light, and low tire pressure light come on until warm.
6-I keep my car in gear all night, instead of using the E brake so it dont freeze, and once i put it in nuetral in the morning and pull the ebrake to warm it up, it wants to pull forward like it was stuck in gear still!!

Sooo basically, wondering if other ppl have problems similar to mine, and what other problems you may have! Or any suggestions. None of these complicate my driving, just rather annoying! Thanks..

the struggling crank and surging idle sounds about normal.

surprisingly, my cd player still worked, but i turned it off as soon as i heard music. i've had a surging idle before in cold weather, but today was the first time i've heard it happen longer than ten minutes. no cels ever remained, except for my parking brake; I thought I released it, but instead it was partly frozen. moving my shifter out of gear took some struggle in the morning, so i did not park in gear tonight like i usually do. you might want to check the air pressure in your tires.

that is all normal. the in gear thing is the tranny fluid not being fluid anymore. the 1k to 4k is the nea position switch frozen..

the rest are pretty obvious..

no it just randomly comes on every now and then just when its cold, but usually goes away about 15 min down the road, or next time i start it when its not so cold. and yeah, well i almost have 95k miles on her, and running strong!! It had a new engine at 45k miles tho. so really only 50k on the new engine.

i'm going to wager that it's this valve or that valve stuck open/closed, or this mixture or that mixture too lean/rich

yeah its cold up north =(

My 8 jumped up to 4,000RPMS, the CD player didn't work till it warmed up either...My tires did seem flat and like u said lumpy so I guess that was normal. and no cel light went on or tpms..

Yepper! Everything is normal and ther is a logical reason for it.

Except the cel light. Are you sure its the check engine light?

I tied you for -16 on Thursday. Same symptoms as the others...1-4k revs, etc., but never a cel for me. Worst part is the really mushy clutch pedal and the hard shifting till it warms up

Whats funny is those who arent used to the cold temperatures doing a sort of song and dance or going through a whole thought process for when its cold

Up in the great north (Montreal/Ottawa) we just live with -16 F to -40 F constantly.

except for having a good battery and a remote starter, we dont make a big deal of it. I guess its because we are used to it.

Its about -16 right now, and though it goes up and down, from last week of Jan to end of Feb its usually -15 or lower. The worst weeks are ahead.

Enjoy these

I dont have pics of my RX8 in the snow though, I'll take a few in the dozens of storms to come.

These are all from quebec, except the first one, not too sure where its from.
Thats what happens when you dont close your windows in the winter

It was 76 and sunny today in Phoenix. I got out and waxed the car for the first time in a couple months. The rain and gloomy weather made cleaning the car rather undesirable.

I heard today only 17% of the land in Arizona is privatly owned. Plenty of space for all you northern RX8 owners to move to the hottest Rotary state in the country!

Coldest it has gotten here in the last couple days was 3 degrees. My idle was up around 2k getting down to 1k and the shifter was stiff. Everything else was fine, no CELs (Maryland)

I'm an "Honorary Yooper" for living up there for six years, and spent another three getting lake effect blasted at Rome, NY. It amuses me to see the school systems here on the Eastern Shore go catatonic with a snow *forecast* of 2-4". Back in my Yooper days, that just made me put a broom by the front door before I went to bed.

Lumpy tires and rough idle are all I've seen with the -8, and the idle I put to needing a tuneup.
