My RX-8 Story

My Chevy Cam is dying on me after 7 years so I decided to order an RX-8 in the 1st week in June. I ended up ordering my car from a dealership in Fairfax, Va. The guy told me I would get my car in August. I called about 3 days ago and found out that the guy that sold me my car is gone??? I was then passed on to someone else. I asked him about the status and he said he would call me back that day. I felt that I was talking to someone who didn't know what was going on. The next day I started to get a little annoyed of no call back. I called and asked for someone who can tell me what's going on with my car. I talked to a manager that had all the answers and made me feel like everything was fine. He looked in the computer system and noticed that the wrong car was under my name and that car was not even built yet???????? My pulse rate started to rise but then the manager mentioned that he can assign me to an exact match which is already built and in a ship coming over to the USA. He mentioned that because they had a lot of pre orders, Mazda sends them extra cars and they just pop into the computer systems. My VIN is 5616. He asked me if me getting the car in the 4th week in August would be fine and I said yes. He also asked me for my email address so I can be updated as my car makes it to the dealership. We talked for about 5 minutes about options and etc but there was one thing that I remember. He mentioned that there have been a lot of problems with those special tires that don't get flats. He mentioned that they were wearing out very quickly????? This somehow is causing them to make changes with an alternative tire??? What happens to the people that got the old tires??? If someone here knows what this is about, please explain----I'm a novice when it comes to cars. I hope I had some usefull info to share????

I'm not sure what the guy was talking about, the RX-8 doesn't come with run-flat tires. It does come with tire pressure sensors.

zoom44 07-19-2003 09:03 PM

yeah he was trying to jack you up for a new set of tires. it's big time BS!! no run flats on this car!

ZoomZoomH 07-19-2003 10:45 PM

are you dealing with Brown's Fairfax Mazda?

tuckerst33 07-19-2003 11:45 PM

Yes, I'm dealing with Brown's Fairfax Mazda

ZoomZoomH 07-19-2003 11:58 PM

yeah ignore his comments on the run-flats.

just ask him what the estimated delivery time is and tell him to cut out the rest of the stuff :)

tuckerst33 07-20-2003 04:32 PM

Today I got my first look a 3 RX-8's at Brown's Fairfax Mazda in Fairfax, Va. I saw a black, blue and gray RX-8. I can't wait to get my red one in late August.

I called my dealership today for a status report. They mentioned that my car is still on the water. I did find out today that the built date was 6/20 and I already knew that my Vin # is 5616. He told me that the ETA is in the 4th week in August. He said that my account will be assigned to someone at the end of the month because the person that sold me the car is no longer there. I will talk to the new guy around the 1st week in August and order all my accessories. I was told that it takes about a week for the accessories to come in. I'm paying MSRP on my car. Will it cost me more for them to stick all those accessories on my car? Any advise from anyone on how to get out of paying that extra cost? Thanks in advance.

Uh, maybe I shouldn't do this cuz I don't know your mechanical aptitude, who else can do it for you, how hard it is for a few of the options to be installed, ya know, questions like that. But if you want to save big $, the more options bought, the more $ saved, buy the accessories yourself & install them yourself!

You can buy I think everything, OEM with a huge price break at
www.trussvillemazda.com
The "retail" prices are for-real MSRP. Buy online or with the 800 number. I just called them today with a question. (They had the answer.)

This makes me wonder why I even bothered Pre-ordering. I'll admit the book and the coffee mugs were cool, but they weren't worth parting with $500 to get my car later than people walking up to the dealers. I have the same build date as you tuckerst33. I guess I am a little annoyed, I am eagerly awaiting my car and I'm sure I'll be happy as heck when it arrives.

My mechanical aptitude is a 0 and I don't know anyone that can put those parts on my car for me. I will check out the cost of those accessorries in the site you posted and compare them to the costs that the dealership will charge. Maybe the dealership won't charge me if I order those parts with them? I'll figure it out----Thanks for the info.

I agree

The dealer doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to the tires. First, no one has enough miles on the cars to even comment on tire wear. I include our Brothers in the Far East.
Second, he doesn't know Jack S$it about the car. My suggestion is go to a dealer who knows his stuff and doesn’t try to rip you off. He doesn’t deserve your business.

On the accessories, I agree with one of the other posters above; go to Trussville Mazda either on-line at trussvillemazda.com or call them at 800-240-2121. Tell them you're from the RX-8 Forum. They will treat you right. Of the over $2,000.00 worth of accessories I purchased, every one came with installation instructions. The only tricky one is the Exhaust Finishers that do require a little skill but still doable by anyone.

Unless you plan on installing everything yourself (or have a friend's help), do plan on dealer installation fee also. For example, the MP3 player costs around $350 MSRP. I was quoted by a dealer, an installtion fee of $165, about 2 hours of labor. It adds up really fast.

I just want to thank everyone for their help. This forum really helps people like me because I don't know #@!#! about cars. This forum is going to be very helpful to me now and even after I get my car.

Uh, yeah, I'm having fun with this:D

Going thru all my "favorites" websites that I saved for RX-8 parts. I already added the ones that I have that have a parts list online. They're added to my 1st post above. Here's 4 more that are in the process of supplying RX-8 parts...
http://i-m-racing.com/mabokitrx.html
http://www.rx7-shop.com/
http://www.japanparts.com/
http://www.shaneracing.com/
Anybody have more??? I would appreciate that as well...

Really, this stuff is pretty easy to install if you're reeeeeel careful with your tools & stuff. If you're all thumbs, "I didn't say that"! Don't do it! There's a price to pay for being all thumbs, I guess afterall. Don't you know anybody you can trust that won't skin you alive to do this? Think about it. Something will come to you...

My x roomate is quite the handyman---- I'll give him a call.

tuckerst33 07-24-2003 07:26 PM

I've done a search on this site, over the internet and have clicked on about 15 various sites that sell Mazda accessories and parts here in the US, Canada and Japan. I still can't find a place to order a lip spoiler for my car coming in late August. If someone can't provide me with a link, I'll have to wait until later to add this to my car. My preference is to get everything on my car the way I want it when I pick it up. Is there Anyone out there that can help me out?

zoom44 07-24-2003 07:50 PM

i'd say check with the UK boys but since there isn't a car there yet i doubt any of the dealers there would be able to order one yet. you'll have to wait with the rest of us;)

tuckerst33 08-04-2003 06:21 PM

I talked to my dealership today and they told me that my car arrived at the New Jersey port on 8/1. The dealership estimates that they will have the car in 2-3 weeks. I have not seen any RX-8's on the road in this area---I thought I would at least have seen one. I only have seen several of them at two different dealerships close to where I live. I thought this would be helpful for the people like me that are slated for August.

P. S.----I was a little annoyed this weekend when I couldn't get into this forum but it looks like everything is now up and running.
