My rims are gone :(
Neighbor knocked on my door this morning to tell me my car was up on blocks. Yep, my rims and brand new summer tires are gone :(
|
Sorry man, that sucks. Been there, done that. Garages FTW.
|
wtf, that sucks dude, sorry for your loss :( .... maybe look at craigslist or ebay to see if they pop up?

Well that sucks and hope the rims weren't too expensive
|

alright, back on topic: what kind of wheels? OEM or aftermarket? and what happened to your wheel locks? |
lol, wow dyslexia moment there :) lol meant lock nuts
|
If you had expensive rims and didn't have any kind of wheel locks then you just put your rims on the street to be taken.
I seen so many cars on blocks in new york its not even funny. If people can steal it they will that's why i always keep an eye on my car and park it within sight of my apartment window. |
even with wheel locks ... rule of thumb ... if they really want em, they will get em

Yeah I realized wheel locks were useless when I lost my key to my Volk locks and my buddy (owns a tire shop) twisted them off in two seconds like they were just regular sockets. |

I have two different sets of wheel locks on my car if anything, just to deter or slow them down.

yet another reason to not have nice wheels and leave your car outside. |

(or at least we can hope not) yet another reason to not have nice wheels and leave your car outside. Yep, that is why my car is always in the garage. At work I have gated lot and the monitor for all the cameras sits up on my wall. |
mine is garage kept, hell I don't even drive to 'questionable' neighborhoods with it for fear some shit like this could happen. Besides, that's what I've got the Bimmer for. :lol2:

I used to drive into some really shady parts of Brooklyn in my FD (before it was redone). I don't think I'd ever leave my car there overnight anymore. I'd hate to say it but, although this isn't your fault, you probably could have avoided this if you were more careful. My 2nd FD looks like a piece of crap and I aim to keep it that way. I don't think anyone will steal anything from it.

military base here, not worried at all, the amount of military cops driving around to pull people over doing 23mph in a 20 zone, by the time one rim is off there's probably been 20 cops that drove past

You can never be too sure, My old Turbo Civic was almost stolen (made it about 30 feet before the secondary kill switch killed it) in front of my bosses multi million dollar home while it was parked next to several other high dollar Mercs, BMW, etc. No one saw anything, they hit it fast and quiet. Since the neighborhood is gated and you have to be on a list or live there to get in (plenty of Spurs players, CEO's, Famous singers, etc. live there) the cops were pretty sure it was a kid from the neighborhood. Since they were not able to get away with the car, they parked it in a dark spot on the street and stripped it right down to taking my new floor mats and JDM air freshener  That poor Civic was stolen twice and broken into 3 or four times and I always lived in a "nice" part of town. But once I got married and bought a house with a garage it was never touched again. |
Sorry to hear. DId they mess anything else up while doing it?
what about using those slim free spinning lug nuts? |
if you got a nice car. you better get a garage. too many low lives out there.
|
One of the reasons I got the SuperAdvans2, you need a 2 1/2 inch socket before you can get to the autoexe 7sided nuts hidden in there. ----(Detroit 4 me)
I'm not sure about US, but in Canada I'd claim ins on it as it is comprehensive and doesn't raise your payment. As long as it was parked on city property that is. Good luck! |
I feel your pain. Back in 84, fresh out college, first new car (83 celica GTS), living in the Bay Area, CA and found it on blocks one Saturday morning when I walked out to the carport. Had only been in town a few months. And 6 weeks later, "they" pried my sunroof out to take my stereo.
Used the insurance on the car to get new gold Enkei 93s, Yoko A008 tires and a +1 upgrade to 50 series. IIRC, went to a Tire Rack to get it done. Upgrade saved me money after the deductible vs the retail price of the OEM rims. Hopefully, you'll be as fortunate too. After that, I always use wheel locks to at least slow down the thieves and deter the amateurs. But there are no guarantees. Not much sucks worse than finding your car on blocks... |

One of the reasons why I wish I could move to a different part of the country is to simply live in a house with a garage.

However, I would think that having a lot of "bling" will certainly get peoples' attention more. So, from that perspective, I agree with what you said. Some people have nice cars, and some people simply get waaaaay too much attention with their cars:bowdown:
