My registration got suspended T_T

Hi guys,

While I was out of country for almost 3 months, my insurance got expired.

After I came back to the US, I noticed that my registration and license are suspended for 100 days :banghead: :banghead:

I explained my situation to DMV ladies that I was out of country and my insurance company did not accept international credit cards and this is my only car and how am I going to go to school and work and blah blah blah

But they were so stubborn :dunno:

It had been 10 days now... 89 more days to go.

Is there anyone had similar experience with me?

I feel so lonely w/o Rx8 :Eyecrazy:

Try a petition to the DMV, they all have such addresses/etc. I had a similar, tho not quite so severe issue when a dealer that I traded a car in at never turned in the old plates, even though I turned them over to them and they signed for it. Yeah, not the best idea, but it was my first time trading a car so didn't know any better. 2 years later, when re-registering, they tried hitting me with $6000 in late fees for not turning in the tags. I dug out my paperwork and sent in a petition, and they dropped it.

Also, did they suspend it the day or the day before you got back? was that just crappy timing or they didn't even start it until you got back? seems rotten. I would think the timer would start from the initial point of "offense".

You should be able to petition that though, just gather your paperwork and write a clear professional letter.

huh 89 +10 is only 99!!! I would say keep bugging them about it talk to whoever is in CHARGe of the DMV or DOT

I don't understand something here. I can see your registration being suspended without valid insurance. Why does that have jack to do with your license being suspended? If you didn't illegally drive or allow the vehicle to be driven, you have done nothing wrong, unless your license expired while out of the country. Even then, it should be an easy matter to reinstate it. Something else has happened.....

I'm with Davey...why did they suspend your license? did you drive without insurance?

They said that in NY, if you didn't have insurance for certain of time, your license got also suspended which is stupid.

What the hell. Like to see some legislator try to pass that law in Texas. Please. Try.
He'd get his ass kicked so high he'd have to loosen his necktie to take a dump.

A quick Google search indicates that you need to surrender your plates. They can in fact suspend your license for not having insurance on a vehicle and not turning in the plates. Apparently this is there way of making sure you don't just cancel your insurance and drive the vehicle using the plates. Kind of ass backwards IMO. I suspect if you turn the plates in you should get your license back in short order but it will be costly. Its $25 + $12 each day it was uninsured.

Are you by chance military?

dillsrotary 01-27-2009 11:13 AM

why did you leave the U.S.? I am also asking if you are military like davey, because if you are there are laws that forbid this stuff.

ShinkaTeen 01-27-2009 11:22 AM

im guessing vacation winters are cold

kersh4w 01-27-2009 11:23 AM

this is silly. write in a petition.

bendanjn 01-30-2009 12:07 PM

I am not military, I just took time off from school and traveled. My another concern is maintenances. How can I keep my rx-8 in good condition? Should I red line it in neutral?

I knew it. cuz I know in NY they can suspend ur license if ur insurance coverage has been "cut off"

but didn't know about the 100 days part.

and those assholes working in the DMV office are ... assholes. They dont want to be liable for anything.

I am pretty sure that when you store a car for the winter, you are supposed to go to the DMV to fill out some paperwork about it so you can unregister it for the winter...probably so you don't get any penalties.....personally, I keep mine registered and insured......esp. if you have a loan out on it, the bank will be pissed if they find out it's not insured....You never know what can happen even if it's stored.

there is a late fee penalty if you don't register it after it's expired and then you are required to pay additional fees for when it was not registered. That is for Iowa...but I wouldn't think it's any different there.

Razz1 01-30-2009 01:41 PM

And this law still does not stop illegal aliens from driving.

dillsrotary 01-30-2009 01:55 PM

^ razz1 nothing you say makes any sense

Seriously, what's wrong with NY state? Not only DMV but every government sectors in NY state. I never got speeding tickets or got pulled from cops in my life. They need to be liable to good citizens like me :icon_no2: haha

So rotary doesn't really need other special maintanence during my suspension?

Thanks guys!

04RX8man 01-30-2009 07:02 PM

when I stored my 8 for winter I set up insurace and placed the 8 as an occasional driver and basically took insurace off(but not really off since it's financed) for 3 months and had my winter beater as primary driver and i didnt' run into any probs...this was PA by the way!

Is that like being almost pregnant? Seriously, you either have it insured or you do not. :banghead:
