my new 2005 rx8. TSB question

ok so i finally bought an rx8. i always wanted one and never wanted to spend the money because i wanted to save it all for road racing motorcycles. but i pulled the trigger and got a 2005 white gt rx8 with 15k miles. paid 14k otd (about 12800 for car).

The recalls have been done. but mazda could not tell me if any tsb have been done.

i have been told i can go to a dealer and they will tell me however i did not pick car up yet.

The important ones are the battery, starter, plugs, coils?

i was told that the car has to be flooded and towed to get the new battery and starter. i do not think it has the new ones as it turned over slow starting. and they also replace plugs when they do this correct?

what about the coils? how do i get them replaced?

and according to this i may have the bad engine mounts as my vin is below the one in the tsb. should i have that checked out?

http://www.finishlineperformance.com...01-09-2062.pdf

are there any other major ones to get done? the car is under factory warranty until may so i have limited time to get them done for free.

my friends dad is the service writer at a mazda dealer so i am hoping he can just do them with out there first being a problem.

Once your car is registered in your name with DMV and you have the title you should be able to access the service history on mymazda.com. Any Mazda dealer can give you that info too after the vin is registered in your name. It's on their computer.

I have a 04 6 sp GT
they changed my plugs, starter and battery with the tsb upgrades. The upgraded replacement plugs have cut grooves to help de flood the car and are included on that tsb. But it is true the car has to be towed to the dealer after flooding and the deflood procdure fails. A weak battery will assure it.

I had alot of other tsbs done too. You are entitled to them all if you are under warranty. The coils were suppose to be checked as well as the catalytic converter when the compression test and reflash recall. Mazda will not do a tsb if there's nothing wrong and no reason to have it done. You have to have to be experiencing a legitimate problem covered by tsbs under warranty. look them over(tsbs) and take care of any problems while you are still covered.

here is a list of tsbs for the 8. Do the ones that apply

the battery had to be jumped at the dealer to test drive. i guess it sat a while or someone left the lights on so its not going to be long before a flood i am sure.

the tow and everything is covered right?

i am going to look into the engine mounts. if they check the coils during the emissions recall then those should be good.

i went through the list. not to many others i am really worried about.

and thank you for more info about the my Mazda site. i figured i could not get info until its in my name.

Glad to help out. My tow was covered. I can't remember if it was covered by the tsb or my mazda roadside assistance that came with the car new.

Check your air conditioner for proper cooling in summer. I had to have that repaired under a tsb. Some people have had cracked motor mounts. Mine are still good. Have fun, and lots of smiles driving it. I do. :)

morssolis 03-30-2010 06:06 PM

is it possible to see the crack in the motor mount? its a vibration at ideal right? is it something that i would notice for sure?

i freak out about all these little problems and i want to get the most out of this 1 month of warranty as possible.

i am going to get the car on Thursday. drive it home. take it to the mazda dealer. find out complete history of the car. get a oil change. call mazda find out the exact dates on the warranty. then go from there.

i going to try and get what i can from mazda but in the end i would like to replace plugs, coils, tranny and diff fluid, battery and possibly the starter. i want to do this within the month.

thanks for the help

the only thing i can think of is the previous owner never registered the car on mymazda so no records were recorded. I 'm the original owner of my car and any service ever done is there. Even the oil changes. It's unlikely your car was never serviced. call mazda or ask the dealer. :dunno:

That notice is posted on every TSB issued. Mazda is not required to repair anything free of charge. The burden of proof of whether a car requires repairs under any TSB is entirely upon the car owner. If a service dept deems the car does not need the required repair, they can send you down the road.

My own experience with TSBs during my early ownership years (owned the car new since 05) was dealers were happy to do warranty work and bill Mazda accordingly. However, as the warranty and the car have aged getting service depts to honor TSB's without question has become increasingly difficult. I dont know exactly why the lockdown has occured but I suspect warranty misuse (by dealers) and abuse (by owners).

BTW, congrats with the new car and good luck.

The service records at the Mazda web sites are entered by the dealer who does the service, if they feel like it, and by you if you want to keep a record there. It's not really an official account. There is an official account on Mazda's system, which dealers can look up.

If you want something fixed that's covered by a TSB, read the symptoms part of the TSB. Then, when you go to the dealer, make sure your description of the problem jibes with the description in the TSB. That makes it way easier for them to correlate the problem. In general, shops are happier if you tell them symptoms, rather than (or at least in addition to) your own diagnosis.

If you have a bad motor mount your engine will move up and down and the car will feel shakey.

You can't get things replaced for free when there isn't anything wrong with them.

you Will NEVER find another car that handles like a motorcycle like the RX8 does.

Be happy!

I've had all of the 'necessary' MSP/TSB's performed, but not this engine mount one, even tho' mine is a late March 2005 build prior to the cited May cutoff.

Keep in mind that TSB's only apply if you're having the described issue. If you had every issue for which there is a TSB I think that would qualify as a "lemon" vehicle!
