My first ever 300 mile tank of gas.
 

I was just excited that I finally broke the 300 mile mark on one tank of gas and thought I should let someone know. It was due to the trip I took to chicago from the twin cities, but I had heard some people dont even get that good of gas mileage on all hwy trips.

The somewhat official numbers: 317 miles using 13.4 gallons of gas
23.66 mpg!!

But now that Im back home, its back to the 18.8 mpg. Oh well.

That's not bad for a car of with the RX-8's performance. I don't see why everyone is so bent out of shape, unless everyone here graduated from a Corolla or something.

Nice. The most I reached was 275, and thats my normal commute.

I'm pretty sure my mileage will suck for awhile until I learn how to drive it better. All that killing it and restarting is probably killing me. I only have 30 miles on my car so far and the gauge still shows full, so at this point it is really hard to tell. When I do get it going I've been driving it pretty normally and have been shifting pretty close to all the points they recommend, so I'll just have to wait and see. The majority of those miles have breen freeway and country roads so not really any stopping there and varying speeds from between 35-55 so far. I'm sure my mileage will improve once I stop sucking at taking off, I just have no idea what kind of mileage I am getting yet.

I rarely hit 200

my very first tank on the car was 23.5mpg, which was ~325 miles on just under 14 gallons. 2nd best tank was just under 21mpg, which i got on a day trip up to the dragon and back.

I usually get around 260-270, 90% suburb/city driving.

So you just now got your car, BG??? I know you've been participating in this forum for a while, anticipating actually owning an RX-8. Welcome to the owners' club. Enloy!!!

Congratulation BG! Try getting on a quiet block and let the clutch out just enough to start moving and then stop - keep repeating until you have gone around the block once or twice (all 1st gear) and you should have a good feel for the clutch by then. The rest is easy. I taught my daughter who was hilarious to watch drive a stick this way and she went from novice to pro right away.

I'm lucky if I get 220 miles on a tank.

I learned how to drive stick on a 2000 Mustang that belonged to a friend of mine, but that was six years ago and I don't have a whole lot of experience since that time. I can shift it really easily and smoothly after I am going. I just haven't gotten the taking off down. I intend to go practice somewhere when I get a little more time. I seem to have to let the clutch out a little further on this car then other sticks I have driven, so I think that is part of why I haven't adjusted super easy yet.
