Not true. In fact, waiting until the engine is fully warmed up before driving is not necesary
But as for high revs with a cold engine, that's always bad. For as you described and for other reasons I'm not completely aware of. |

Regardless of your decision, I highly highly highly recommend you get to local SCCA autocross events. Seriously. Even 1 event will help improve your driving. Keep doing it for fun and education though, it's the best bang for the buck that you can have in your own car. Driver mods before car mods.
Totally agree that "the best performance (and safety) modifications" come with the DRIVER first :-) |
you are very lucky guy to have this car as your very first my first rx7 was my 4th car when I was 18 years old a little advice from me is check oil ,coolant ,install full header+mid pipe and catback if you want this engine to last u a long time this engines are not as people think they just need a lot of maintenance .

I got my 8 two months before I turned 18, and 8 monthsish later I had to bite the bullet and replace an engine, and transmission....it was grinding in 2nd, 4th, and 6th. If you've got the capital, and are confident you can keep that capital steady, then it'll be a great car. At the point you're at, spending money on mods is stupid, unless you get something useful like...as mentioned above, BHR Ignition, a catless midpipe, and some other things Mazmart sells to keep coolant temps down.
I put 28k on my car before it's second engine gave up the ghost at 156,025 miles. Basically what I'm saying is...as shitty as it is...expect the worst with this car, and hope for the best. This is the greatest car I've ever owned, even with it's failing engine. She's in surgery now. /Storybook |
