My dealer, my warranty and BHR ignition
So, I have developed a misfire on my 8 after 13k miles and I'm about to put her in the shop at the dealer. Has anyone had to replace your ignition while under bumper to bumper and were able to get the dealer to work with you on a BHR ignition? Or is that even an option for me?
|
It depends on the dealer. My wife's engine was replaced with no questions asked about her BHR kit, I also had my engine replace with the BHR kit, but all they wanted to do was replace the plugs. I know that others have had issues, so its pretty much hit and miss. Just take it in and see what they say. At the very least they are going to want you to replace the plugs.

Hear at the back? Please explain?
You're not mistaking the overrun pop when you shit gears at high rpm are you? I've got a misfire at idle as indicated you can hear the idle is not smooth at speed or wot at misfire can be felt as a hesitation or a flashing cell |

those "pops" are not misfires
when the engine misfires, you will have a flashing CEL, it will flash 3 times per misfire if im not mistaken. those pops are normal |

10-4! That's good news... still gonna take it to the dealer though.
Run it down to the Cocoa Beach area next weekend and I'll check it out for free. I doubt you have anything wrong at all. Whether you want to buy BHR or stock coils.....if you really want to replce them..................I'll show you how to do that as well. How many miles on present ignition(coils, plugs)? Sorry I just re-read....................so at 13k miles I doubt you really need anything at all. You could change the plugs if really that paranoid(like me). |

Yes, if under BtoB, then take it in and have them fix that. |

When I got my engine replaced upset warranty I was responsible for plugs, wires, coils and they said I could buy anything I wanted or they would put oem stuff on I didn't do BHR coils but from the wounds of it I could have if I wanted to.

As others have said, a misfire almost 100% of the time will throw a permanent code - or the CEL light will flash rapidly and then disappear.
A misfire could be a sign that one or more of the coils is shot or going bad, but not necessarily so. Some RX-8s seem to misfire randomly and unexpectedly - even with new coils. There many threads of people talking about that. It has happened to me once with new coils. And after checking and rechecking the ignition system, including the battery of course, I couldn't find anything bad anywhere. The BHR kit claims to eliminate the classic random misfire issue. I will also upgrade to that kit. In regards to the dealer and warranty issues, I don't understand why they would say anything about aftermarket coils. It would be like you getting your coils form autozone or another auto parts store. Or getting a battery, or spark plugs cables from an autor parts store. |
