mustard colored oil..??
 

okay soo a little light in my dashboard keeps popping up and I looked in the manual and it was the low oil light. So i took out the dip stick too check the oil and it was mustard colored? I called my brother and asked him and he said it was antifreeze!? He told me that my antifreeze and oil are mixing up and that something was wrong with engine chamber or something like that! help idk what i should do? do you guys have any idea what could be wrong.:uhh:

Oh god... Are you sure it isnt the milky substance thing on your dipstick? Because every single person has that and it's perfectly normal on this car...

no dude its antifreeze cause the oil is like greenish sluggish..

Well for one, you said the light was low oil level - right there, that will get you a flaming.

For two, you said the 'mustard' was on the dipstick - if you drained it that would be different, but you didn't - that's your second flaming.

Let me give you a little info on this if in fact it is anti freeze in your engines oil.

This happened to me (not with the 8 but with my old z28 camaro so I know its not the same but here we go anyways). It started gradually with my camaro (antifreeze started getting low quick) and then eventually I started to notice a milky foam within my oil. I took it to a dealer and he said that there was a crack somewhere in my engine block or something like that and the contents of my radiator was draining into my oil and that I would without a doubt need a new engine (which is kinda pricy even for a used ls1) so I decided to continue to drive it untill it died (not advisable).

eventually it got to the point where an entire full radiator would drain into my engine without 15 minutes of operation so I decided it was time to just get rid of the car (had alot of other problems to). Before I traded it in though I drained the oil several times in order to flush the milky foam out of the engine and even ran it dry without any oil or an oil filter to make it look and drive perfect. I drove it 3 miles to the dealer the night before I wanted to trade it in (enough time for it to cool down because the engine got hot quick) and the following morning I took it and traded it in, they inspected it and gave me full blue book trade in price which was great.

I kinda cheated the dealer but I didnt lie to them because they never asked me if there were any known problems with the car they just did their little inspection.

Who knows? The point was to see if the crap on the dipstick looked like that, if it did, then she deserves to be flamed, if not, she probably needs a new engine.

Well if it at all seems like vaseline and its a recent rebuilt engine then its vaseline. We use vaseline to hold gaskets in while building the engine and it end up all over the dip stick, I never checked the radiator cap on our test car but it may end up getting in there I suppose also.

taste it... if its sweet like yellow mustard then its trouble. If it tastes more like a dijon your probably ok

If its a creamy color, its normal on our cars. Just built up condensation. Mine had it around 20K miles and I'm almost at 42K.

However on a piston engine, milky oil is BAD. Diagnosis is a cracked cylinder head and in some cases yes anti-freeze can get mixed in with the oil. That was probably what he was thinking.

If it feels right and drives right, don't worry. If something really is wrong you won't have to come and and ask if something is wrong, you'll know.

Is your coolant level actually low? Or is the light just on. The sensor on the overflow bottle has been known to go bad (my 07 currently thinks it's low on coolant whenever I get above 5K RPM for a while, even though the level is at the F on the side of the bottle).

If your coolant really is draining into your oil, it's time for a new engine (which will probably be covered under warranty) If you aren't loosing coolant, then top up your oil and don't ever let the low oil light come on again (check it weekly and keep it topped up, it burns oil by design).

To get rid of milky fluid in your oil, take the car on a nice long drive, run a full tank of gas through it, and don't go easy on the rev's. You should be able to boil all the water out of your oil that way, and failing that your can change your oil if you want, even though it's a harmless condition.

I don't think he's talking about froth on the dipstick. I had this same thing happen to me. When the antifreeze and oil mix it makes a mustard like substance. I had a bad seal and this mustard substance actually built up in my coolant reservoir. The substance built up and was actually going into the engine. I brought it to Mazda and they had to replace my entire engine, radiator, coolant reservoir, and some hoses. Bring it to Mazda ASAP because they told me it could make your engine seize. And they should replace any parts (or engine) if it's under warranty

A. Why the hell does everyones engine look like that.....stop using vegitable oil....A little condensation is one thing, but that picture looks TERRIBLE.
B. Yeah the quick to flame thing is really dumb. It took just as much brain power to say mean things as to just answer the question so if someone does search mustard oil it'll come up instead of just a flame thread for pages.
C. Check the coolant, more often then not oil will leak in there if it's leaking into the engine. When in doubt consult your dealer.

yeah a small bit of condensation/chocolate millky substance on the dipstick is fine but if u would drain theoil and it's all milky you have a major problem.....
