MT Break-in shifting technique............Newbie
I have about 100 miles on my 6MT. I am a little concerned on the effort & concentration that is required when moving the gear shift lever from one gear to the next.
I am not shifting too fast and it almost seems to grind when sliding he lever into the next gear. Is this just normal and I should expect the gear box to loosen up a bit after a few more miles. Once in a while the shift will be ultra smooth but most of the time it is very hard. To pull off smoother shifts, I have started to pause in the neutral gate of the shift and then complete the shift after pause during which I keep the clutch fully depressed during the whole shift-pause-shift. Is this the usual for how the gearbox acts during the break-in? Thanks............ |
lift some weights and don't be afraid to slam it in there. Also, check your tranny fluid level. Both my oil, and tranny fluids were low when I picked it up in January.
oh, and for future reference (and I'm gonna get killed for being the one to say this, hehe) SEARCH FUNCTION, please. |
If the problem persists in the next 100 miles, I will bring the car into the dealer.
Also I did do a search on both shifting and transmissions. Let's just say that both searches brought back hundreds of threads none of which addressed my issue. I eventually gave up and posted this topic. |
i had something up with my gears too, when changing from 2 to 3 it would feel really light and just slip into the gear. But in other gears it when in with a push. It didnt feel right so i got my oil changed and then it went back to normal
