mpg
HI I've just joined and i'm looking for some advice. I badly badly want an RX8 but i've been hearing terrible things about the mpg and i was wonderining is that only if you driving it on if you take it handy most of the time would the mpg be ok and how much would you get taking it handy. :):):)

Best I have ever done is 28mpg and that was 100% highway driving. Only about a mile of city driving total on that tank.

You should get one. This is a very good car that's about equal with other sports cars on the MPG front. And as was posted above, what Mazda states is about right for MPG... I've found. |
Really, you should NEVER care about the MPG...if you do don't buy the RX-8, the 8 is WAY more than just MPG...
An RX-8 is part of your SOUL, Seriously, if you don't drive it daily you get physical and mental withdrawals... YOU AND YOUR CAR ARE AS ONE! |
thanks to everyone just picked up my RX-8 yesterday and to be honest once i got behind the wheel i didnt care less about MPG i'm having too much fun. What a minter of a car i love it. I don't think i will ever go back to a normal car after this. Thanks again
|
welcome to the addiction marion. depending on where you live, you might want to consider a "normal car" for bad weather / winter driving. the 8 is not good in it and you run the risk of some other retard running into you because they don't know how to drive in inclimate weather.

I'm doing 22 city and 35 highway.

mpg was never an issue when I was looking at rx-8, g35c, 350z, s2k etc.... it was all about finding that perfect "One with the Car" experience. In this respect, the 8 just delivers in spades.
|
Remember it's all magical EPA estimates or who ever does the testing. They don't give the rpm shifts. Road conditions etc.
MPG may vary depending on your location and how spirited you drive. I had been looking around to get rid of the 8 because of MPG to realize. That an evo, sti, or s4 are all about the same. When you get down to realistic driving conditions. ^But everyday I fall in love with my RX-8 over and over again. And MPG will not be an issue for another car for me |
When you own an RX-8, it has nothing to do with the mpg. You don't buy it for economy, you buy it to satisfy that need for another adrenaline hit. And yes, you do become a junky and feel the withdraw when driving another car.

BTW, welcome to the addiction man, remember to read the FAQ section. |
Yeah if you accelerate slowly and drive a long ways to work you can get the official numbers.
But if you are doing the work of upholding the rotary reputation in the world, against all manner of boxter, miata, mustang, dodge magnum, debadged G-sedan, and sportbike, then no. I always accelerate fast since I am a trained rotary driver, but you have to watch out for people who try to bait you. Lots of dodge magnum station wagons can't stand being passed up, so they try to "prove something" to me. But I don't care, I'm just minding my own business, trying to get to work or go home expeditiously. Same with sport bike drivers who take off too slow from a stop. They act all crazy on me for no reason. For safety they should never try to pass the lead car anyway. Bottom line, 238 horse got nowhere to go but very fast forward. People gotta learn to respect that and not act so surprised when their suv or g-sedan isn't the fastest thing on the road at the time. So many times people try to steal the onramp from me, but fail since I am going into decarb mode. Just because it has a smiling front grille and looks "friendly", people make assumptions that they can just cut my lane off. Not so. Not in the straight. Not in the bend. Not ever. |
