Did you watch so you could fix it yourself next time?

Question about moisture - was it rain, snow, or just accumulation? Do you cover your car at night? Inside Garage?

I'm guessing it was condensation on the inside of the light. Seems to be a somewhat common problem.

You have 3 choices for the problem

If you're still in the warranty, get dealer to replace it, they will replace the whole thing.

Or

Take the light out (a 5 minutes job) , and clean all the dirt thats on the Gasket.blow dry it and put it back. Another couple thousand miles of worry free driving.

Or

Take the light out, take the gasket out, look for water marks and seal it with Epoxy Glue. No more worry but u have to becareful, make sure u dont seal the wrong stuff.

It is a known problem that the seals are bad in them. They replaced my seals for free.

I had passenger taillight replaced for free.

Yea, I have this on my rear right tail light. Only when it rains or snows though.

Removing tail light

I just got my RX-8 and would like to save the warranty on replacing the tail lights. I have condensation built up and want to try to fix it myself but have no clue how to remove the tail lights. Anybody know where I could get some instructions to take them out myself?

I don't understand your statement. You don't "save" the warranty by not using it. If mine was in warranty, I would certainly have the dealer fix it, probably replacing the gasket with the new design.

I am, unfortunately, far from my baby, so I can't take photos, or even give you a detailed description, but: The taillight lense assembly is held by two hex-head screws accessible from the back (inside the trunk, under the carpet). fold the carpet back and take those two screws out and the assembly pulls free. Then you unhook the map housings by giving them a quarter turn and pulling out. If you have liquid water inside, it's a bit of a hassle to shake, pour, suction, or blow it dry.

how would one take apart the light to fix this pesky problem?

gixxer2go 01-29-2007 05:54 PM

Dealer did it right...

After washing the car, taillight had serious condensation. Stayed there for a couple days, so I called the dealer and set up an appt. Got a CX7 loaner while they replaced it for free. Mazda dealer in Antioch, TN (Nelsons).

When I was washing my car on Saturday I noticed a little spider had crawled into my tail light and died there. Gotta figure out someway to get it outta there.

My 8 had the same problem start the other day too. At the meet the other day one of the guys had the opposite tailight messed up. He offered to trade me his bad one for my good one that way we both had matching!
