Missing door light. Very weird.

So... I noticed the bulb was out on my door light (lower left of my driver's-side door).

I pop out the clear plastic cover and notice that there is no bulb, and no housing FOR the bulb. I looked on the passenger's side: There is a bulb, and if you take out the bulb, there is a piece there that you plug the bulb into.

The driver's side has just a hole. Anybody have any insight in what the heck is going on here? And how much do you thinkit will cost to fix? It was either a defect, or the previous owner had the door removed for something and they forgot to wire the lamp back in there. Sucks! I did a carfax on the car and also looked for signs of paint-work. It all seems okay. Please advise :)

holy crap, this happened to me on Sunday! I popped off the plastic lens to change the bulb to some new led's and the housing is gone! (well, not REALLY...)

If you pull at the bottom left corner of your door panel, the corner will pop out a bit and you can see it dangling. IT probably just came loose somehow. If you can put it back in place that way, go for it...if not, take off the whole doorpanel an you can fix it. (unless the plastic clips holding it in place broke)

dang... i'll peep it tonight... THANKS!! LEDs? what kind/color?

Same damn thang happened to me.

Looked in the door panel and it was gone.

I think it's the Nomes.

Jedi got it dead on. when I bought my car the drivers side was dangling, but the bulb was still good. it actually layed on the door panel and melted the plastic enough to make it form around the bulb. you can't notice it as it is on the bottom. but it is an easy fix.

leds:

Blue, superbrightleds.com

I have the 4 or 5 led ones i believe, I can get the actual numbers when I go home and can get my e-mail from them if you want.

MR2: did you get a chance to go lookin' for it? I probably wont have time to try and fix mine until Saturday.

As for LED's, I was putting in hyper white 194's from Vleds.com

hey, jedi. i looked more closely, and through the tiny space between the armrest and the lower door panel I can see light. It's still on and connected. How the heck does this happen? Anyway- i will just take the door panel off and fix on my own- but how? it looks like there's a screw near the door pull and then another near the hinge. Are there illustraded pics anywhere?

I bet LEDs would look cool and last longer! take some pics!

I'm obsessed with LED's, I've been swapping out all my normal bubls for them (side markers, parking lights, puddle lamps, etc etc) I've got instructions on how to remove the door panel lying around here somewhere....lemme see if I can find them.

Found them! These are instructions for installing Puddle Lamps BUT they've got GREAT instructions on removing the door panels. :fruit: :)

Great instructions--lots of work!

I had the same thing happen when replacing the light with an LED. There's nothing keep the bulb from popping out into the door panel if one pushes too hard, and I wouldn't doubt it if, over the course of normal driving, they might pop out if there's bumps on the road. It would be nice if there was like a washer type mechanism on the base of the bulb that would prevent this from happening.

Jedi54 03-22-2007 02:51 PM

Problem isn't just the bulb though.... for me, the housing that holds the bulp is what came loose. I'll be removing the door panel on Saturday and seeing if I can get it to stay in place.
