THIS CAR SUCKS GAS!!!!!!
You may know, I have a pet peeve against how-many-hp-will-my-intake-give-me threads, white-goo-on-my-dipstick threads, and synth vs. dino threads, but particularly fuel mileage threads. I hate them.
Nevertheless, I just started my car over the weekend after a LONG stay in the garage. There was still 3/4 of a tank left in the car (I did NOT add stabilizer, but I did add some octane booster for that residual gas.) I have driven for 3 days now AND HAVE VISITED THE GAS STATION TWICE!!!!!! The last tank gave me 15ish mpg.
I think I am going to go back to driving my frigging Chevy Silverado for my daily. I can get 16 mpg if I overfill the tires and I have a 23 gallon tank, so no daily trips to the station.

PS. as an actual contribution to general MPG knowledge, I have done a preliminary experiment varying the air pressure in the tires of my truck and on the RX8. I have noted that small changes in air pressure in the voluminous tires of my truck have a significant effect on mileage; in the range of 0.2 mpg/psi. This means that going from a low 33 psi to a normal 38 psi (in the truck tires) nets me one extra mpg. The low profile tires of the RX8 seem to be immune to this effect. I note no significant difference in mpg over a range of pressures from 32-40 psi. I may continue to collect this data through the summer (now that I am driving the car again) and see what I see.

Carbon, what the hell? Of all the people starting a mileage thread.....
What kind of gas are you using? I'm working on a hypothesis that ethanol content has a large impact on RE mileage and I need some data. Shell V-power 91 has no ethanol content so try some and report back... Most other brands seem to have 5% to 10% ethanol.

hmm...ive never seen 91, but the Shell 93 that i only use has 10% ethanol

Dont worry; I'll come through.
So gas. Well, as I understand, here in MD we all have 10% EtOH by law. This started last summer, if I remember. Before that, I was getting 17ish mpg in mixed (city/hwy) driving. On the highway, I would easly get into the low twenties. I fill up at a Cheveron around the corner and at shell stations in the area, when I am out and about. 'Bout a 60/40 split, respectively. If I go out of the area, I hit branded stations, BP/Exxon/Texaco, but this is rare. Always 93 octane. Turbo safe.
Dont take my low mileage to heart yet. It is too early after restarting the car. Plus, I can't help hitting the gas. I will calm down soon, my LTFT will set in, then I will start my log. We will see and I will let you know by PM (or this thread if I feel like stirring the pot.)

Transam Kid: octane ratings vary by region. In AZ and Cali, the highest octane rating fuel we can get is 91 (street legal at least). But when I lived in Pittsburgh, I could get 93 octane. It varies due to state laws reguarding emissions

1) go to the dealer.
2) go up to the manager
3) place your keys in his hand.
4) ask for your money back.
5) go buy a honda cause you don't deserve to drive an RX8
