Mazda's New 2007 Warranty

I was just looking at their site and noticed that their warranty coverage for 2007 model cars is changing. What do you guys think? My opinion is they shouldn't have changed it, I like the longer bumper to bumper warranty.

2006 and older
48 month/50,000 miles bumper to bumper

2007
36 months/36,000 miles bumper to bumper
60 months/60,000 miles powertrain (engine, trans, differential)

I'm with you Brice, but... very interesting.

because the whole Ford company is changing to the longer powertrain warranty. in fact the whole industry is. and splitting the bumper to bumper into seprate and shorter saves them money- this is becoming the new norm for the industry

Brice-RX8 07-24-2006 10:25 AM

Yeah, I realize it will save them money, just saying I wish they weren't doing it, sucks for the consumer, but that's business.

zoom44 07-24-2006 10:29 AM

you get a longer powertrain warranty.

LionZoo 07-24-2006 10:44 AM

I like the longer powertrain warranty, wish I had it. If you think about it, the stuff that'll really cost you is the powertrain items, so for me at least this gives me more piece of mind since the other stuff I probably will be able to fix myself.

It does suck but as already stated its the nature of the entire industry. Only ones surviving are Toyota and um Honda I believe (last I heard mind you folks). Then again most of their American plants arent union run. Crap I just opened up a canO'worms with that statement 'eh had to be mentioned atleast.

Interesting, but mnost of the crap that's been going wrong with these cars is not part of the powertrain.... center console breakage, brake squeal, battery & starter motor replacement? (are they considered part of the drivetrain?). Seems like a cop out to me.

But the powertrain stuff is still usually the most expensive. But to be honest, I wouldn't trust Mazda as far as I could throw things at them. You blow a head gasket and they're libel to say it was "abuse".

Your assuming they even acknowledge that the gasket is blown.

Don't you find it amusing that Ford Certified PRE-OWNED vehicles get a 6 year 75,000 mile powertrain warranty?

I for one would not buy an RX-8 with the 36k warranty. The 4 year warranty is one of the final factors. I generally keep a car 3 - 4 years and then purchase another one. I like the fact that the RX-8 will be under bumper to bumper warranty for the entire life of the car. Keep in mind I bought a 2004 (the first year) and my previous car was a 2000 S2000. I have no hestitation by the new year of a car as long as they have a good warranty. Lets face it, any car manufactor is going to have a lot of bugs in the first release of a car. I had no major problems with the S2000 other than I hated that they put the glass back window in the 2002 and didn't offer a affordable upgrade for Honda owners. As it stands now, my RX-8 is towed to the shop and I am expecting the starter to be replaced but that remains to be seen until Mazda determines what is wrong.
