mazda service says "starter miss fired and needs new coils and starter"

Mazda service has quoted me at 1,000$ to replace coils and starter. apparently, the engine has flooded as well. 2004 rx8 engine is under warranty 8yrs old or 100k mile. they are able to obviously fix flooding issue and spark plugs but.... Mazda has told me that i cannot get any aftermarket parts for the starter or coils because it will cause the same issue in 8-10 months. IS THIS TRUE?!?! i feel like im getting waxed.... :wallbash:

any suggestions on what to do with this issue!? :Peace:

I'm in Cincinnati. I'd fix it myself but I don't have a garage/tools right now.

I also have an AEM cold air intake and full Greddy exhaust which the dealer tried to say is causing the problems.

Send a PM to Fuztupnz. He is local to you and may be able to assist with the doing part. For a beer or two :)

shadycrew31 11-11-2011 09:22 PM

fuztupnz 11-11-2011 10:13 PM

Lancer, send me a pm. I'm local and can help you out. In fact some of the guys are coming over tomorrow (Saturday) while we do some coil overs on one of the guy's car. We may e a blue to find your parts locally and knock it out. If not we can shoot for another weekend.

I replaced my coil with the Black Halo kit, I would recommend the same.

I too am furious with the dealer right now. They are saying my car was flooded and replaced the plugs. No way they were fouled in 1 day. Wish I had a video on my phone of the car running just hours before leaving it with them. Calling Mazda customer service tomorrow.

You could ask the guys here:
http://www.cincystreetscene.com

They will probably know a few good 8 people in the area.

Probably not. No offense if you belong there, but I wouldn't look to them for help unless you want to do some highway pulls or put neons under your civic.

Lance, here's our local thread. https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...82#post4124882
