Mazda Melting Dashboard Lawsuit

So Mazda recently got slapped with a lawsuit with regard to the Melting dashboard in their newer model cars and decided to help out the driver. But with respect to the Rx-8 they won't? Hmm I might give corporate a call again. I would at least be able to do half. You think we will reach middle ground now?

Loki 01-08-2017 03:51 PM

Your dashboard has melted?

NotAPreppie 01-08-2017 03:55 PM

Melting dashboards are news to me.

Idk if its melted but cracking yes which I know is common on the rx-8 but come on Mazda. They changed them on those models maybe they should help us out with ours.

Hmm. If Mazda commits to this, they'll have to develop and produce an improved dashboard that doesn't crack, otherwise they'll be changing them forever. I wouldn't hold my breath, but let us know what they say.

Will do. Tt was only uptill recently they gave in cause someone recorded a video of the cracking/melting causing a glare or something that reflected the sunlight which was a safety issue. Its money for them but they make billions and they could do this cause them not fixing it, they are saying they dont care about their customers or how their customers feel about the car they purchased. If one buys a Mazda and wants it to look good and feel safe then as a company they should care about that. It would only strengthen the relationship with the customers and the company but as you said they would have to reinvent the dash. Idk... lets see.

The other thing is they might have to have the new dash retested for proper airbag deployment, which means more crash tests. That's expensive for a niche car. On second thought you're right, maybe they can just go halvsies on a replacement dash or something :)
Anywho, good luck!

... I... I might know what he's talking about. Can you post the video?

Mazda isn't going to shit about a cracking air bag cover.

mazdaverx7 01-09-2017 05:22 AM

From the video, the dash replacement has nothing to do with the RX-8..

Yes it does as the Rx-8 experiences cracking, and tearing over time. It may be lumped together.

CelestialGryphon 01-09-2017 08:35 AM

They've lost so much money on this car it's a miracle they do anything at all.

mazdafan1892 01-09-2017 06:08 PM

So.here is the scoop. They said they would not be able to fix the cracking at this time but maybe if I have the part inspected, its possible they might or at least go half. I bet they wouldn't though. To inspect it and test it prolly cost and arm and a leg. Sigh.
They also said I was the first one to call reporting this issue. Meaning no one else has mentioned this to Mazda.

Ivan_RZB 01-10-2017 09:55 AM

Where is your dash cracking?

That's better than I expected. Did they explain what would constitute an inspection?
Maybe car manufacturers should browse their fan forums once in a while, lol.

9krpmrx8 01-10-2017 05:03 PM

BS. Who is they? and who would inspect it other than Mazda? Air bag covers and dashes crack over time, this is not a part that is cracking on cars that are under warranty. The melting issue is totally different and affects the resale and model reputation of Mazda vehicles that actually sell well, it's not related to the RX-8 and the Rx-8 reputation and resale is already ruined so they won't do anything about it.

If they are not fixing the faulty power steering and clutch pedal issue (well they did extend the warranty on the clutch pedal but it didn't do shit for those of us past 8 years from the sold date) which both can be very dangerous, they are not fixing a crack in an air bag cover.

I'm not known on here as a smarta%$ but I actually can be in person. So why not get people organized and get them to warranty our tires, because we all know that they didn't last the 30,000 or wth ever the tread life warranty was. Unfortunately this car is passed it's prime and trying to get mazda to continue to throw money at it doesn't help our situation for future projects. It would seem more beneficial to conceive a way to refurbish rotor housings. But, like I said, this car has run its course.

This could have been prevented long ago. Mazda should have recalled this ages ago for safety and to show their customers they care but no, they care MORE about the money. Also you see in the video above it IS a safety issue. Being light could reflect off into the driver's eyes and I am not so sure that the cracking is a good thing for the air bag or how would you feel as a car manufacturer when lots of people sit your car and notice. Hey did you see that Mazda? yeah they make a crappy product. Everyone I know agrees with me that they should replace it or should've not used that material. That's MY opinion. Oh and by the way, I have taken care of car, put ALOT of money and time into it. Even had the freaking engine replaced which costed me a pretty penny. I am actually considering selling it. So for Mazda to be like I know you spent thousands but yeah... screw you and I am NOT helping you giving you another crappy(not new material) passenger dash says something about the company.

Just my two cents.
Have a good day.

mazdaverx7 01-12-2017 05:33 AM

So my question is this: Is your dashboard peeling and cracking or is it just your airbag cover that's cracking? It would be nice for Mazda to do something about the cracking airbag cover. I have two 8's with a cracked cover. The third is just fine....for now... I also have a Porsche 944 that has a cracked dashboard. Porsche knew about their dashes cracking and the inferior materials used in its construction and did nothing about the issue. I have to either remove the dash and repair it myself, pay to buy a refurbished dash or just live with its ugliness. I have chosen to live with it for the time being, as I have with my 8's. Luckily however, the passenger side airbag cover in the 8 is easy to replace, its just costly for what it is.

Keep us posted if you hear anything from Mazda regarding your complaint.

9krpmrx8 01-12-2017 11:17 AM

Mine went from not cracked to full on spider web in a year. It's annoying as I am OCD about car. But spending $300.00 plus for a new is a hard pill to swallow and buying a used one is risky. My friend had his covered, but mine is too far gone for that so I may get a used one covered and see how it goes.

xKp5609x 01-12-2017 12:22 PM

I should be thankful mines still intact. Everyday i come to the car i look to make sure its still ok! What is everyone covering their intact dashs' with?

Mazdaspeed RX8 ver2 01-12-2017 05:22 PM

Now i'm a bit worried. Need to inspect my dash now.

jer2911 01-12-2017 06:28 PM

My cover went over the summer, so now both of mine have a 2" crack. I asked the service manager what the replacement costs a couple of weeks ago and he told me it was $527 for the panel. I tried to have the one in my daughter's repaired last year by a gentleman who repairs our upholstery on boats and he couldn't get the repair to bond. It lasted 12 years so I believe that exceeds what a manufacturer forecasts you to own a car before trading for a newer vehicle. I don't see them paying much attention to the issue.
