Major hesitation in low rpm

I have a 2004 RX8 with about 50k miles. I've noticed recently that she is a bit hesitant until I hit 4K rpm, at which that point the powerband kicks in. I had her at the dealer today to check it out and they ran tests but came up with nothing. I have heard several possiblities from people but wanted to hear it from the gurus. Your thoughts and or suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

what possibilities where you told

Dont just "oh my car has a problem its hesitating until 4K any ideas what might be the cause ?"

give us the maintenance history of ur car or something.

leading coils ftw

Replace your coils. More than likely, thats your problem. And even if it isn't, they should be replaced anyway.

Well I've had the car since about 10k miles. No mods. I have done all recommended maintanance by Mazda. I drive it about 3-4 times a week in moderate traffic in northeast florida. Typically I hit between 5k and 8k at every shift.

Don't let it get below 4k :D

nycgps 07-24-2008 01:50 PM

check coils.

use heavier oil, in ur areas use at least 10w30

Coils yes. Also being the 2nd owner, have you ever had your plugs changed?

04RX8man 07-24-2008 02:11 PM

RXG8R 07-24-2008 02:27 PM

10w30 it is!

Yes the plugs were changed at about 30k miles but am not sure about the coils.

I am running 93 octane 100% of the time.

Btw thanks for all of the fast replies.

I say we stick a headline on the top of the forums "FOR ALL LACK OF POWER PROBLEMS, LOOK AT YOUR COILS BEFORE ANYTHING"

8 year/100K warranty? Are you over 100,000 miles?

I just wanted to leave a quick reply here since this thread helped me out. I had a similar problem. The car wouldnt start for at least 5-6 seconds of constant cranking every time and i had lost major power specially in lower rpm(anything under5000). It also started to rev really rough when i started the cold after sitting in cold weather (-10, -15). It would start but the needle would play around until it was warmed up which led to the car flooding once. Too cold of a night(-17 with windchill), started her up, went inside and waited for it to warm up. When i came back, the car had turned off and flooded(she turned off because my plugs and ocild were bad so weak spark and extremely cold engine didnt mix). Anyway, back to the main post. I changed my coils, plugs and wires which i bought as a package on ebay for $340. The car now starts like day one. She has also gained her power back and its very very noticeable so if you have similar symptoms(not the flooding), this could be your solution. on a dise note, the package that i bought from ebay is great except for the wires. The wires were too short for some reason and had to order from dealer for $80 butthe coils and plugs are great (so far- 500km)

Need help on troubleshooting. My car upon taking off it hesitates then it runs fine. On take off the more I push the accelerator the more it hessitates. Upon take it off and keep it light it runs normal.
