Maintenance Records

So I finally blew my renesis last friday coming home after prom lol. I was driving down the 10 freeway with my friends sleeping in the car when I heard a popping sound from the engine bay. I was losing power so I pulled and the car had to get towed back to my house. Next day I tried cranking it and all the car did was make a electric whirring noise. Figured I popped the engine and it had no compression. After crying over my car, I realized I was still under the 8 year 100k warranty, yay!

Now the problem is, I bought the car used from the original owner and he pretty much threw out the maintenance records last month when he was cleaning out the garage. (I bought the car in January). When Mazda compensated him for the car not putting out the advertised hp, he opted to get the 5 years of free maintenance. He went to the Galpin Mazda dealer for all the maintenance procedures even after the 5 year period. What he doesn't have are the oil change receipts from after the 5 years. He gave me a paper of his own recordings of miles/dates of his oil changes though.

I figured Mazda headquarters or Galpin Mazda keeps records of dealer maintenance. But will they still accept the recordings without receipts? Or am I destined to get shafted by Mazda and have to buy a replacement block. Also I heard from people that Galpin Mazda has terrible service, (maybe they don't keep records?)

If Galpin Mazda entered the service into their system, which they most likely did for billing, then any dealer can pull it up for you.

A reasonable attempt to record maintenance should be adequate. Most people don't keep receipts for simple oil changes. It's a Mazda Noth America 8 yr/100k miles drivetrain warranty which they must honor. Just stick to your guns.

i've heard some not-so-nice things about galpin, so you might want to be extra-prepared. if it was all done at the dealer, there should be records in the computer

Hmm they said that it was the radiator that failed so, warranty won't cover it.
