Love or hate?.... Hate!!!!!

Thanks to the person give free car fax reports I now know the truth about my 8. This makes me love it no less but dose make me angry at the dealer who said it was only a 1 previous owner (5 befor me) had original engine (blow up at 4,500 mile) never had a accident (2 on record 1 was with a non mobile object) all in all car fax don't care what they promise car fax it. If it wasn't such a good running car and I didn't love it so much I'd run it up their %*~ at full speed. Barns crossing mazda in tupelo MS don't trust them and damn sure don't use their service station.

Im confused, did you get a carfax when you bought the car and it didnt have any of this info in it? Or did you not get one at all? If you didnt get one, you can really only blame yourself for not demanding one before purchase.

I do damn my self and it is my fault for not insisting for a car fax but I did ask for and receive a service record that only disclosed about 1/4 of the real service history. Shady basterds. But as I said the car has been grate no trouble out of it and I love it. Just will never do business again with that place. I found it funny as hell that the first owner killed the engine in the first 4,500 miles. I think it realy only had 2 owners before me the other three are dealer transfers.

Both of my RX-8's were 2004's, but I bought both second-hand. My understanding is that early engine failures were somewhat frequent and lead to a really early re-flash. Your car was probably a victim of the bad original flash, or a generally defective engine, and not of the first owner.

Sorry about your luck, but it doesn't make it a bad car as long as the repair work was done well. Maybe all of the damage was cosmetic?

At 4,500 miles, it's more likely that the engine was replaced on a wrong diagnosis than that it had actually failed.

Of all the cars I have purchased over the years, the only used car purchase that I have had trouble with is the one that came with a book full of service records. That one was purchased for $6,300, and after 2 years, $6,000 in parts, off the road for more than 16 of those 24 months doing all the repairs myself... i finally threw in the towel.

So I'm a bit jaded when it comes to records. It tells what was done that was recorded, but didn't give the information on things like running it out of oil....

We'll I got lucky this ones only been off the road for a week out of the 3 years I've had it and that was due to clutch replacement, header install,CAI install, and test pipe install. Only thing that went down was the slave cylinder. It just makes me mad that this place was such a punk but that's a car dealer. Live and learn. I am glad I got the car and would give my wife up before this car.

Just curious, what kind of car was it?

I own a few buy here pay here car dealerships. carfax wants to charge us outrageous money for the vehicle history. we leave it up to the customer to drive, carfax and get an insection. that is way to much out of pocket money without a guaranty of sales.

To be honest, that is a really crappy perspective. You could easily recoupe the cost through that "documentation fee" that is added on to every sale.

I've bought a CarFax for the buyer of every car I've sold private party. If I am looking at a potential car to buy at a dealer and they don't provide one, I walk.

niteshade247 04-09-2014 03:33 PM

This isn't a buy here pay here place this is a dealership selling new and used. With the buy here pay here places I know what to expect and most of the time I come out on top because I know what I'm looking for and have cash when dealing with them. This was just one of those things where you tell the wife "heay look at that" next thing you know your signing papers. I still got away with less than they wanted and no more than KBB value.

MadCat360 04-11-2014 04:13 AM

Mine came with a great carfax, always dealer maintained, 1 owner, below average miles per year...

I've dumped about 6k into it in parts and labor in the last 12 months. The last one was for a $1,200 suspension bushing install...

Like RIWWP, I've almost reached my giving up point. A Miata is looking really good right about now.

BWAHAHAHA! That's fantastic.

So what went wrong the first time? What did you do right the 2nd?

RIWWP 04-13-2014 07:32 AM

I bought someone else's problem the first time.

I then traded it for 6 years newer, 90,000 miles lower, and 50% more power. https://www.rx8club.com/general-auto...-build-244600/
