Looking for a nice set of slotted and/or drilled rotors + brake pads
 

looking to pick up a decent 4 piece set of slotted and drilled or just slotted rotors, and a set of dustless (or near dustless, aka ceramic) brake pads for my 8. have posted in for sale and tech & performance under brakes section but after almost 5 hours not a single response (let alone the unhelpful ones), so figured I would post here. trying to keep this done for under 600 to my front door. TIA!

i honestly dont know quality wise....theres a place over here by my house thats sellin one just like that for somewhere around 400 + pads....again i dont know quality wise...

why you guys think its 30 more to purchase as kit, versus the pad+rotor kit and picking up the lines separately?

The Hawk HPS is not a ceramic compound, it's a ferro-carbon formula so dusting will probably be about the same as OEM. Hawk does make a ceramic compound (check out TireRack.com ~$80). I'm running Carbotech Bobcats (ceramic) and they are very low dusting (even better than OEM). The Carbotechs are pricier than the Hawks though.

Try Racing Brake, they have what your looking for in one and two piece rotors, fairly competitive with pricing and excellent quality... I do believe they too have a vendor or a member whom can work out a deal for an 8 owner...

Slotted and/or slotted and drilled are a waste of money. Buy some blanks (brembo, napa, etc) and a better set of pads than the HPS and your car will stop much better anyway as the pads are most of the battle when it comes to stopping...

I see ebay has rotors for a good deal but have no clue if they are good or not i'm sure somebody has them or try searching for the ebay ones if no body here posts about them

I do not do any tracking with my car at this point in time. So EXTREME braking ability isnt as important as lightweight and head reduction that the slotted/drilled brakes offer. I do not want ceramic pads. There used to be some gold dust brakepads on a website that I had, but they no longer carry the rx-8 pads in the dustless (rotex).

so for those suggesting blanks, what setup would you recommend with pads to rotors for ~$600?

I bought a set of OEM that they slotted and cross drilled of EBAY for about $80. They look great, stop like OEM, and have been perfect for the past 18 months. I'm not sure if I have pics.

if you are not tracking your car you will not need whatever incremental heat management that a properly slotted performance rotor might offer. and if you're just looking at traditional one-piece designs, weight savings are probably negligible. if you *really* want weight savings, look into high-quality 2-piece rotors exclusively. something tells me you have 'sold' yourself on the looks of slotted/poked rotors.
As for pads, i have no idea what replacement cost is, but the oem pad w/ the 'silencer' shims is excellent for everyday use. less dust and noise than Hawk HPS (although my HPS experience was in another vehicle).

^ I have leaned away from the drilled rotors due to some advice from a forum member here. I am still looking for a decent slotted set and some low dust pads. I have called a few perf. shops around the area and no one has anything decent.. all carry either the ceramics for racing and such, or traditional oem 35 dollar pads that blow.
