I took a look at a 05 with 34k miles on it for $13.5 today. It looks to be a well kept vehicle with no accidents according to Carfax. The 4 year factory warranty expires in 4 days. How comfortable would you be buying an 05 without a factory warranty?

thanks,
Hugh

Why don't you take it by the dealer on a test drive while it's still under warranty and find out if there's anything 'wrong' on not updated with it?

That's how I'd work it, personally. Not sure if that's an option for you.

You can always extend the warranty.

yeah dude, read through the obvious and then ask away. Heck, if you dig through the 1st 3 pages there's newbies asking these questions.

Well the ENGINE area is still under warranty, for 8yr/100k thanks to Mazda. In FL the most common failure will be your AC. Other than that, most repairs will cost you under $500.

I'd not worry about the warranty so much, I really looked into one just recently, and the best deal I could come up with for a full BUMPER-To-BUMPER was around 2.2k for 4 more years. I could get one for around 1.6k but it was not an 'exclusion' based warranty and I didn't feel comfortable with it. I ended up NOT buying an extended warranty.

I figure with today's economy and all, I'm probably better off putting a few bucks each paycheck into a 'car fund' instead. If i end up getting lucky and never use it, then it's a down payment for my next car. If not.. well I have funds to help offset any cost. I'm putting about 40-60 each month which translates to about 720 per year. (Hoping of course that should anything go wrong, it happens later down the road hehe).

As far as price in general. I just this month purchased my 05 Touring from the leasing company I was leasing from, it has slightly more miles, 41k, but I paid $12,100 AFTER taxes/tag etc. (Down from the 14.9 my lease paperwork said it'd be. Probably because the lease company would have only gotten that much at auction I'm guessing.)

I didn't notice what trim package you saw, but 13.5 sounds like a decent deal. I saw one for that price at Gunther Mazda not two weeks ago (It was a Red Touring I believe).

If it's a dealer, and you can't get a lower price, you might be able to get a few oil-changes out of them. Can't hurt to ask :)

Ohh, Insurance.. that varies a LOT by area. I live near Ft.Lauderdale/Miami, 37yrs old, zero points, no tickets in over 15yrs, drive the car each day to work, etc... my insurance from Geico at the moment is about 680 every 6 mo. I found that Progressive and Geico have typically the lowest rates for me, and usually every 2 years ago I switch to get the 'new customer' type rate.
