Look What I Found Next to the Windshield Washer Tank

Can anyone tell me what this plastic item is clamped onto what looks to be the fuel line?

It spins around and looks like those magnet things that are supposed to improve mileage by atomizing the fuel.

This came on the car from Mazda when I bought it new but I didn't notice it till I was finishing off the A/C line insulation mod.

Does anyone else have this on their cars as well.

If it is the magnet fuel atomizer, all those posters that scoffed about them can laugh at Mazda for installing them on their cars. :lol2:

It's a fuel flow transmitter. Big Brother is spying on us. Hee, hee.

Pure bologna! Everyone knows the only way to increase gas mileage is to glue a pyramid on top of the MAF.

Ah, the ubiquitous "clip".

RenKat 01-06-2006 11:39 AM

Noise Filter

That looks like a noise filter on the AC line.
It keeps high freq noise from going down the AC line into the dash.

Glyphon 01-06-2006 11:45 AM

looks like nothing more than a retaining clip to keep the two ends securely connected.

Chrisbert 01-06-2006 12:13 PM

It does look like a ferrite choke.

StealthTL 01-06-2006 01:13 PM

Magnet....

I don't laugh at you because you thought that clip was a magnet - I laugh because you were more than ready to believe they work!

(I also chuckle in your general direction because you believe that insulating that pipe will make any difference! :hahano: )

DOMINION 01-06-2006 08:26 PM

Mazda had Top Secret Japan install them on test models to get better gas milage.
I could not resist:rollingla
I'am ashamed...

I know the EPA's findings were that the magnetic devices they have tested show absolutely no benefit. http://www.epa.gov/orcdizux/consumer/reports.htm

Well the good news on insulating the A/C pipe is that at least it made someone chuckle. Not sure what other benefits as of yet since I installed it when it was about time for the leaves to fall. I just wrapped it in conduit so it looks fine. No blazing aluminum heat tape to shod up under the hood. :D

Noise supression what type?

What does it do and how does it work?

If it is a noise supressor, what type of noise is it supressing (electrical or physical)

RX-8 friend 01-06-2006 10:03 PM

It's protection for the connection and I suspect to keep the connection from breaking in the passenger cabin in the event of an accident (being shoved into the cabin - it's too big to fit through the hole).

DOMINION 01-06-2006 10:50 PM

OK place all your bets now. I'm callin' Mazda tomorrow.

BoosTED 01-07-2006 12:08 AM

Silly willies, Its the retainer clip on the refrigeration line that seperates two linear a/c lines and is o-ringed so as to be a non leaking joint. There I said it. :boring:

It's the "check valve"

You know, if you happen to remove that, it'll dump all kindsa metal debris into your injectors, thus voiding your powertrain warranty! :mdrmed: :icon_bs:

Yep, definately a "clip."

In the Shinka, it's also where the pixies live, who make the exhaust smell like lilacs.

DOMINION 01-07-2006 06:49 PM

So, you didn't see the attached image in post #4?????

BoosTED 01-08-2006 05:03 AM

So now the question is: What is 61-4H8 (NC73-61-4H5)?

angeljoelv 07-13-2007 01:09 PM

Clip to secure the refrigeration lines together.Trust me I jsut didi a 3 rotor swap. I know

rotarygod 07-13-2007 01:30 PM

That's the reverse fallican rod antisurge valve.

dmc27 07-13-2007 02:20 PM

nice revival. gave me a good laugh.

antisurge protection on the phallican rod is a good thing, right?

baseballgenius80 07-13-2007 03:37 PM

Hey McFly, don't you know that's the newly redesigned flux capacitor. Just like the lack of torque and possibility of the 8 not having the horse power that is reported, Mazda can't figure out how to get 1.31 jigawatts out of this bad boy yet. Oh well.
