Look what 2 hours and some pieces of wood can do.

So I got my car audio system all upgraded ripped out the Bose crap and replaced all the wiring, speakers, and amps. Here is the fruit of all my efforts - things are so nice and neat and organized and bolted down

Here is what I actually made:

What i'm going to do is get some carpet from an audio store and cover the wood panel and make the holes and it will look 100% stock! Best part of all this whole thing was free (using scraps of wood my dad had around his barn and his tools)

Now my trunk is 100% usable again YAY!

lol nicely done.

definatly post pictures up after you get the rug material to cover up the wood. So far looks very nice man!

Razz1 12-24-2006 08:19 PM

I get spamed when I click on those pictures.

toxin440 12-24-2006 08:23 PM

how do you get spammed - its www.imageshack.com ive never known them to use any kind of weird spam stuff. Maybe you have some kinda ad virus?

Razz1 12-24-2006 08:26 PM

Nope no virus. Just get spamed by Vonage advertisements.

dillsrotary 12-24-2006 08:31 PM

looks good, what material you plan on covering the wood with?

Wilson 12-24-2006 08:42 PM

How do you plan to keep that equipment cool with the board on top?

toxin440 12-24-2006 09:02 PM

the material to cover it with? i dont know exactly yet but im sure the audio shop thats local will have something good.

Keeping the hardware cool? Well - you can see 6 ventilation holes in place for now - thinking about enlarging them but am happy for now. It's cold here for the season so im not super worried at the moment but will see how it goes. The amp itself has thermal protection circuitry so... we will see.

I think Wilson has a good point, but good luck!

PerformRX-8 12-26-2006 03:26 PM

very innovative! but i would paint it black to blend in.....

toxin440 12-26-2006 04:18 PM

oh the natural wood look is by no means how I'm going to leave it - I just have a lot of stuff coming up and it will have to stay that way for a week or two. I'm moving into a new badass apartment here on the 2nd and have the (i think) fun task of getting all new furniture and cool stuff to stock my place up.

I thought about painting it black (and that is still an option if i'm ever too lazy to carpet it. But after i get some time i just need to make a trip to the car audio shop and get some of the generic carpet to match whats in the trunk.

Everyone is saying how am I going to keep the equip cool... can you guys not see the ventilation holes on the top? I might make them bigger down the line but right now its not an issue.

I'd worry about cooking all that electronics even with power off. That's a muffler right under the floor of the trunk and 6 tiny holes aren't going to provide much convection cooling with all that radiant heat. Check how hot it gets without power to those amps!
