The longest thing that will fit inside an 8
I was at Home Depot yesterday, where I bought some long items that, when I got them out to the car, I was sure had no chance of fitting inside. But they did! With less than an inch to spare, and without any bending of the items in question. All doors, windows and trunk were closed. Anyone care to guess what the length was?

I'll bite. And I'm not gonna cheat by doing any math or measurements. Were they 8-foot 2 x 4s poking through the pass-through?
|
Poking through pass-through, yes. 2 X 4's, no. 8 foot, no. Longer!
|
10 ft.???

Ding ding ding! On the nose. I was buying electrical conduit to use to make a garden trellis. I only needed 5 foot lengths, but they didn't come that short, and I didn't really think about fitting them in the car until I got them out there.
I put them down on the ground and thought, damn, they're going to stick half way out of the car and I'm going to have to get some string to tie the trunk closed. But I thought, what the hell, removed the pass through and stuck one through, went around to the passenger door and pulled it as far as it would go. I went around to the back again, and the end was flush with the hard plastic that forms the rear of the trunk. Another inch longer and I wouldn't have been able to close the trunk. But anyway, the conduits were 10 feet long, and I was able to stick 8 of them in the car. It was awesome. |

Interesting. I had to buy a few 1x2's at Home Depot and took my wife's RX300. The ten foot lengths just barely fit inside the mid-size SUV. They were positioned from the far left rear corner to the front right and laying on top of the seatbacks. (on towels, not directly on top of the Coach interior)
Never thought of taking the 8 :) |
Just curious, but if you needed 5 ft lengths, why didn't you have the orange apron guru's cut them in half for you? Would have saved you the hassle of cutting them at home.

4 foot long shotguns - 6 of them at once :)

Actually, only some of them need to be 5 foot (the cross beams). The rest need to be longer, but I wasn't sure exactly how long, so I figured I'd just cut them at home. They're aluminum and I have access to a sawsall, so it's not a problem. |

The 8 should accomodate all your home project needs, I swear the thing's like a Tardis. I love this car. |
when i saw the title for the longest thing that fits inside an 8, i was all prepared to make an immature penis joke but dang, 10ft? thats sweet. too bad the opening in the passthrough is too small or else i wouldn't have to lug my surfboard on top of the roof like i do. good to hear i can fit some hard wood into the car though - oops i did it anywayz.

Oh yeah, OverLOAD lent me the prototype he's working on so I can test it (plugs into the center console _and_ provides an AUX-IN as well):

Who? :)
The 10ft is really impressive but on the down side my 6'3''+ tall, 240+ friend found the 8 real tight. Though he says thats not uncommon. Thankfully the car is for me and me alone. |
I worried the Darliks are gonna find a way to jack my 8
