A little problem with my storage guy
I have my eight in storage at a friends house. The thing is, i go to school 2 hours away and spies tell me he is sneaking a drive from time to time. That pisses me off!:banghead:
I would like to know if anyone keeps their eight outside in the winter with a car cover? I wont drive it in the snow and salt. I'm hoping to get a good car cover and leave it in my driveway at my other house. |
Wouldn't be a bad idea
|
just record the mileage/take the keys away
|
Yea.. take the keys lol, or tell him not to drive it.
|
Only reason i gave him the keys is to start it up once a week. I already warned him about not driving it. The car only has liability insurance on it so he shouldnt be driving it either way. I guess my only choice is to leave it out in the cold. Damn this sucks
|
or find another storage guy. :uhh:
|
^^ been trying that. Im close to finding a resolve but living 2 hours away makes it complicated.
|
Can someone recommend a good car cover?

Take out the battery and store it in your house.
Also, you can keep your 8 outside with a cover on it because that is what I have to do for winter and I've had no problems. |
If he just drives it down the block, thats not a big deal. Maybe he wants to get the wheels moving a little. But if he drives it the whole day, thats messed up of him after telling him NOT to drive.
|
i keep mine outside with the mazda oem cover.. and then just go out and start it up once a week... it works great.. even witht eh snow and ice.... i refuse to drive in the winter/ snow
|
Dude, car garage for 45 a month. Ill start it for every weekend or what not. Im sure im more trust worthy than jayk.
|
Get a grenade, and some string.
Tie one side to one door, and the pin side to the drivers side door. Make sure you put a warning sign on the window so you're not liable after he explodes. |
^^ good idea. How will i explain it to the insurance company?

Another option is to just drive it!!!
The cold weather and snow hasn't stopped me yet ;) |
^^ buh i haz winter car.
|
winter car is the way to go....I sleep better at night knowing my 8 is protected in the garage with all this crappy below zero snowy weather. Plus I don't trust other idiots on the road from running into my car because they suck at driving in the snow.
Z, I know you know what I am talking about with the idiot drivers we got in Iowa. ;) GL with the car storage deal. I would try to find a garage you can rent for the winter over the car cover thing. That would be my last resort. |
take the keys with you. I store mine for 3 months and dont start it once. Done that for 3 winters now, youll be fine. Youll have to jump start it in the spring but it should fire right up with cables hooked up to it.
Take the keys man. |
10x20 garages for $45 bucks around here. im sure u can find plenty of them.
|
i'd just put the car in your driveway. put the car up on stands, so the tires dont deform. (just enough to unload the tires. not all the way off the ground.) and take the battery out. make sure you DONT put the battery on cold concrete. put the battery on cardboard or wood or something.

AccessPORT valet mode - MM version.
Rev limit set to 2500 RPM and throttle position limited to 10%. Fuel maps OFF above 2nd gear. ECT leans fuel once the motor is up to temp until it stalls. Car ain't going nowhere. |
damn son. thats serious.
|
isn't it bad for the paint to put a car cover on outside if its windy and there is a chance of snow/ice blowing up between the cover and the car. be like sand paper to the paint?

COBB AccessPort with the valet map FTW. You can even tweak the map further to limit rev to 2k...
heh... i see Jeff beat me to it lol |
2k is 8mph or something like that. thats a bit ridiculous.
i'd tweak it to 3k/14mph. |
Heh, that's seriously awesome.
MM, any toying around with a way of linking that mode to the remote lock? I know the immobilizer keeps most thieves away, but that plus an auto-valet mode whenever you lock your 8 should prevent your 8 from getting very far if a professional targeted it. Edit: Hrm, not sure this would work if you take your AP with you. But honestly it is the best reason I have heard of for getting an AP so far. Warming my car up in the morning always has me nervous and watching it like a hawk. 2nd Edit: Was just informed of a 2-2.5 min reflash time, which works great for me, but probably not for this linking, and come to think of it, I don't know that I would ever have the valet wait 2-2.5 minutes for a reflash before handing him the keys. Actually, I wouldn't hand anyone the keys but another 8 owner. Still great for safety on winter morning warmups. AP now the top of my too-distance list. |
#1) You do not need to start it once a week. It does nothing except waste fuel. Fill up the gas tank, add fuel stabilizer, take out the battery (store it indoors), and throw on a car cover. That's it.
#2) DO NOT PARK IT OUTSIDE! Salt from the street evaporates into the air and exposing your car to that is no different from driving it all winter. It will expedite rust. #3) Don't park it with someone you don't trust.

The valet map is cool, any chance of flooding if the dude shuts it off quick

Only in the coldest location would it possibly be an issue. |
Not a very good "friend".
