Letting other people drive your 8
 

Well....do you guys let anybody drive your RX-8? I have so far let two people that i trust tremendously because i drive with them all the time and i know how they handle sports cars. I am not sure if i would just let anybody drive it though, even with me in the car. How about you?

I let girls drive my car all the time

I let one woman drive my car (other than my mother;) ) and that was it, most women can't handle the stick:D .

Anyway - it was a bit of a stereotype. Actually, outside of the "car nut" crowd, probably only 25% of the drivers overall in the US can handle a MT. And, for those that think cars are just for going from Point A to Point B, that's fine.

For those who have a passion for cars, driving, etc - I would think driving an MT is a MUST. And, you be surprised how many of the people who feel that way just happen to be......women!

I have no problem with women driving MT's, alot of women drive them well.

I'd have to look it up, but I read in Time or something that women on average have faster reflexes than men. Thats why some of the best top fuel drag racers are women

Only my father, as he's the only one else in the fam that can drive manual.

After him, it's the service ppl at mazda, autoshop, or window tinters.

It's funny, they told the secretary at the window tinting shop to drive my car out from the garage to the front. I watched her from the waiting room a bit anxiously. Didn't ease my fear any to see her looking back as if to reverse, and then see the car inch forward about 3 inches before she stopped... :(

My philosophy goes back to when I was a child and what my parents taught me. "Don't let anyone ride your bike!"

This I have carried on in the car world and is the exact advice I give to my kids, be it their bike or their car. This way if anything happens to it, it will be by your own hands and you will have no one to blame but yourself. The only other person who has driven my car is my wife.

After I first got it my step daughter (18 y.o.) asked if she could take it around the block and I gleefully said, it's a manual to which she replied that I probably got a manual so she couldn't drive it. Secretly I was grinning ear to ear about that one.

I have a 15 year old, who will be 16 in December and I will probably teach him on my oldest son's auto Plymouth Breeze because their ain't know one going to be driving my RX-8 but myself and on rare occasions, my wife who, by the way, drives a manual tranny just fine.

My 17 y.o. has no desire to drive a MT but my 15 y.o. wants to learn to drive one, which is OK with me because his Mother has a manual on her Pontiac Sunfire so he can find them and grind them on her car, not mine. She has promised to give him this car after he gets his license but he knows quality and is not admitting to her that he doesn't really want it. He can always trade it in on something better with a bit of additional money.

I'm not terribly picky about it, so long as I trust the person driving it. My wife's driven it, a friend of mine took it out for a spin the night after I picked it up, and another friend got to drive it all night last weekend after volunteering to be designated driver at the Belgian Ale festival.

I have let all my friends drive it, and even offered to let the telephone repair guy drive it after he gawked at it and told me he had a 7.

until someone besides me makes a payment on it...absolutely no one until hell freezes over and they pry my cold dead fingers from the steering wheel will someone else drive it...except for my wife...she just has to give me that look...ya know...the LOOK!..

I let anybody who asks drive mine. It is just a car for crying out loud. A car I really really like, but still just a car. Somebody says "hey, can I look at your car?" I say sure and open her up, if they say "can I drive it?" I say OK lets go. I am not going to let anybody wind it out on the street. If we are at the track, OK, but not on the street. And whats the worst thing that can happen? She gets totaled and I get a new car. The next one will be titanium.

i finally let my friend David drive it yesterday. he let me drive his s2000 over a year ago after his wife bought it for his birthday. least i could do to return the favor. but mostly people dont ask they just want to ride.

The only person I'd let drive it would be my wife :p , but she hasn't wanted to yet. GAWD I love that woman!

The only person I ever let drive my car was my husband, and for those of you who read my threads know he wrecked it in the driveway then his own truck two weeks later. So never again......also - I have a sign on the dash that says "rule number one - don't touch my car".

Let my future father in law drive it once. ALmost ran into a post. No one else drives the car but me.

Then again, I never let others drive my cars. Not even when I drove crappy cars. I just dont trust anybody but myself to not screw up.

If you're in the fam, I'll probably let you drive my 8... I of course know who they are, and more importantly, where they live... But really, I know that they're responsible if they're in the fam, and outside of that, there hasn't been anyone else yet. I briefly considered letting my best friend drive it, but he's always been such a tighta$$ about his *fancy* mustangs (worth about 1/7th of my car), that he's not getting behind the wheel just out of principle.

No one's drives my 8...well, because I don't have one...yet :)

I'm selective with my TT but my wife can certainly take it when she wants, and I lent it to my parents without hesitation this winter (so they could get home) when their car couldn't get through the snow in my driveway when we got hit heavily one evening. :)

I reluctantly let my hubby and my daughter both drive it; they both stalled it because the clutch is so sensitive. My daughter had to let me switch places so I could parallel park it - I just prefer to have no one else drive it but me. But I will cave on rare occasions.

Thus far: my brother-in-law, my best bud, and three employees of my company, since it's a company-leased vehicle. There was a 350Z owner who wanted to check it out, but refused my offer of a test drive. I do have cars that will have very restricted access, but the 8 isn't one of them.

I usually dont even let myself drive it.

seriously though- My GF learned on a stick and she is the only other person I let drive. She has to pick me up from work from time to time.

I let my 25 yr old son take it for a ride with his wife. When he got back he was grinning from ear to ear. His wife said he would never be allowed to own something like the "8". He loved it!
