not sure why you are already talking about lemons. The car hasn't even been available for the public yet in North America.

Did your last car leave a bad taste in your mouth?

Does anyone know the average % of new cars that are lemons? Or better yet the % of Mazda 6s that are lemons.

I might give us an idea of what to expect.

From my understanding of a "lemon" It is defined as a car which has had a major defect (ie transmission, engine...not the radio). Also, I believe the dealer has three tries to "get it right" before the buyer can pull out the "lemon law" card...(I'm in CA btw). So, i guess there could be lemons floating around that more lenient buyers gave the dealers more than three chances to fix, but now they're fixed and happy......
What I'm getting at is this...a "lemon" is more a problem with a particular dealer/service dept. rather than the manufacturer. The port problem for example..if this becomes an re-issue upon release of the car, Mazda would most likely do a recall and fix the problem uniformly, if not, ALL rx-8s would/could be lemons. With today's ISO-9000/9001 manufacturing processes most all lemons are created by a poorly equipped dealer/service dept. IMHO.
BTW, wife's got a 2001 GT Eclipse, had a few problems, but the dealer zapped them correctly, gave us a rental car, etc...it's all about the service. Car's been awesome, since.

Nonsense!

Today's cars are more complex than ever, so when something goes wrong if it's too glitchy or intermittent it will never get fixed.

Also remember lemon laws usually don't just cover repair attempts, they also usually cover days out of service.

For example, Toyota had a problem where people were lemoning their Prius hybrids because tire dealers in the U.S. don't stock the special tire they take, and it would take over 30 days (the "out of service" lemon law limit in most states) to get the appropriate tires shipped from Japan. Weird, but true, and if I had a new car that would be stuck at the dealer for over a month because of the time it took to get a replacement tire, I'd probably do the same thing...

In Texas, if you are provided with an equal replacement, out of service time does not count.
