So I was on my way home the other night, and there was some really severe rain coming down. Could barely see out on I-287. Well, during the trip I felt a couple of drops on my head! The roof was definitely closed all the way - but when I put my hand up in the crease at the front of the roof there was definitely some water inside. Not sure if it was just because the rain was sooooo hard, but even so it shouldn't allow any water to come in. Anyone else experience this? It may have been leaking slightly always, but I didn't notice, becuase the water would sit in that little tray - as I said it was so extreme and there was certainly some water sitting in the space between the front of the roof and the inside lining - yet only 2 drops actually fell down on me to make me look. Anyone else experience this - or even check it?

 

I rained one night really hard and I was dry while I was in my car. You might want to get that checked on.

I know that in my Nissan Altima, the rain can seep in when I drive around curves and I feel a few drops...

 

I've never heard an instance of a leaky rx-8 roof. Take that sucker to the service center and have them fix it, don't worry, just mention my name and mazda will cover the tab.... :o

 

it rains here EVERY day. Half of the time it rains several times a day. My roof is 100% dry inside. It definately needs to be fixed at the dealership.

 

I've been in SEVERE rain, BiG drops and hail even, and my top stayed dry. I would think that it can't rain much harder than that... and mine wasn't wet. Seems like you may need yours tweaked.

 

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has found a true fix to this problem instead of unclogging the drains? last night I went out to my car after it had been pouring rain all day and my floor board was soaked. After pulling it into the garage and doing some deep digging (pulling off the door panel and part of the dash) I found that the sunroof was leaking into the car. I did some searching and found that clogged drains would cause this so I checked the drains and they weren't clogged. After that i put a flashlight above the drains and could actually see the light under the headliner coming from the sides of the sunroof mounts. If they're designed that way then shouldn't the sunroof seal all the way around and not let ANY water in??? Or should the sunroof completely seal??

 

the moonroof works like this:

there is a seal around the glass to the body, this is mostly meant to keep small furry woodland creatures out, and rocks and sticks and stuff, it will keep some water out.

the part that keeps water out is the tray that the moon roof sits on, its works just like your house, there is a gutter all the way around, and a drain hose on each corner.

as long as the drain hoses are clear, it should actually be able to drain off quite a bit of water, and you should have no problems.

if it does leak, step one is to clean any dirt/debris out, and blow out the drain hoses.

 

So in other words if all the water is running to the front at the same time its going to flow over the "gutter". I don't understand why the seal wouldn't be designed to keep all water out and eliminate the hoses but guess thats just another "perk" to owning these cars lol. My car was actually parked on a hill all day yesterday while it was raining so that probably caused it to not drain off right. Thanks for the info man

 

every car is like this, there isn't anything unique about the Rx8 sunroof, you can't seal between the sunroof and the body.

if you want to cast blame still, the moonroof assembly is made by a company called Webasto, which is German.

 

I wasn't casting blame I just didn't realize that more cars were designed like that since I never had that kind of problem out of my G20t and always thought that the sunroof sealed all the way around.

 

i did too, until my friend removed the sunroof assembly from his FC, and then the first time it rained it was pretty clear how it worked!
