Keyless Remote

Is it just me or does the keyless remote really have a short range? My remote only works within a 10 ft. radius compared to my girlfriends Lexus remote with works well within a 25 ft. radius of her IS. Just curious.
BTW I placed a new battery, and no difference.

yea, mine is same thing, but i get better range if u hold it up above your head and hold the damn button

I've never noticed it. Actually, I've never really felt the urge to unlock my doors from across the parking lot :)

I have the keyless entry, so it's in my pocket at all times, and the distance is just a matter of my arm's length. I love it by the way, I feel like one of those Geico Cavemen when I drive another car and actually have to use either the remote, or heaven forbid, key, to unlock.

Us fools that still have to use keys live a tough life!

Mine works twice the distance if I "Hold the fob against my chin when I push the button".

Stick it near your metal fillings if you have any in your mouth. Less and less likely now that white fillings are popular.

If you cant remember to lock your car before your 15 - 20 feet away from it ... you don't deserve a locked car!!!!!

One cool feature I found - reading the owners manual (shocking I know!) is that if you don't open a door within 30 seconds of unlocking it w/ the remote ... they will automatically re-lock! Very cool ! because sometimes when you put the keys in your pocket it can accidentally hit a button.

Something is wrong. My keyless remote works up to 100 ft. if no obstructions. Sometimes if I forget where I parked, I raise the remote as high as I can and follow the honk.

Once, my range started to decrease to about 25 feet, I changed the battery and the range went back to about 100 feet.

This totally works. My forehead usually boosts the range also.

I got this weird/funny image of a guy holding an Asian immigrant against his chin.

Think I heard this on "Car Talk". If I recall, they seemed to think the reason was not that you're holding it against your chin, but because you're holding it vertically, or upright—which makes it work better because it's really an antenna.

I locked/unlocked my car from my front porch to the street and thats probably 50+ feet.

_Logan_ 04-17-2007 04:18 PM

Weird, mine works from about 200m away, I do rifle shooting, I left my car parked behind the 500m mark and we were shooting from the 300m

Haven't noticed the distance issue on mine but has anybody else noticed how responsive the trunk opener is on these things? Most cars you have to hold the button down for a couple of seconds, but not the 8. It's like instantaneous!

What year is your 8?

The early ones were instantaneous, but somewhere along the line they changed it to a second. There's a TSB describing it, and explaining why: so you wouldn't accidentally open the trunk.

Never did a real distance test on my reomote, but it does work from a couple of rows away in an underground garage. Saved me a couple of times when I didn't remember exactly where I parked.

Remote

I have a 2007 M/T GT and the manual states that the operating range of the remote is only a few short feet. Can't remember the exact distance, & the manual is outside in the car :(

2005 (made in late 2004). That will be one TSB I don't get done. I like the quick opening. Better for the battery life in the remote.

I wouldnt know as i purchased an aftermarket lcd remote start unit. Works about 1/2 mile radius (with a clear line of site). Love this thing as im able to start the car from my home to warm it up as im getting ready for work. This particular model alarm is made for manual tranny's so i dont have to worry about it lunging forward into my living room if i forget to leave the car in neautral as it has safety features to prevent this.
Anyhow, i can check the status of the car, If anyone taps me or tries to break in... Ill know about it. Best part is that the stock alarm is still active and works together with the aftermarket one.
Was never really fond of stock alarms as they dont protect ur car cause they have no shock sensor so anyone can just bust ur window and steal interior items. im thinking about getting a microwave sensor where if i go to the beach i can leave the windows/sunroof open and if anyone sticks there hand in the cabin the alarm will sound. I will also buy a siren that operates on its own internal battery just in case someone pops the hood and discos the siren by cutting the wires.
Any "added" protection never hurt.

I've noticed that the distance for the smart keys is just a few feet if you use the door button, but 30 or 40 feet if you use it like a regular remote

Yeah, took me about a year to notice this. But I didn't use an owners manual.
