Keyless Entry

My key less entry on my car suddenly stopped working. The range was getting shorter and shorter. So common sense told me it was the battery. I replaced it and still get nothing when I press any of the buttons.

I searched around and saw that you can use a switchblade key and have it cut and program it.

Do you think it's the key? or the actual system in my car (please no :uhh: )

Thanks guys

i too have wondered this...

my keyless entry range has gotten shorter and shorter.. now I can no longer be more than 10 feet from the car.. before I could arm it from my apartment to my car down in the lot.. must have been about 300ft..

curiously there are days when the range for some reason is "back to normal" and then suddenly it won't work anymore and I'm back to 10ft..

compman i had that happen to me. just go get an aftermarket alarm. OR you just need to replace the "clicker". i think they are only like 50ish dollars and then like 50 to program.

Yeah thats what was happening to me, exactly, alz0rz.

Thanks for the help, I'm gunna get a uncut switch blade key online and have the dealer cut it and program it for me

yeah, I'm just going to take this opportunity and install my remote start stuff.

Detrich Feb 6, 2009 03:16 AM

could it be something is shorting out inside the key?

DubbsLuvs8s Feb 6, 2009 07:24 AM

This might be the third thread that I've jacked recently, but I got questions.

When Mazda advertises their "Keyless Entry and Start System" does that mean like a push button start or a remote start. On the '09s I mean.

I LOVED the alarm and entry on my 626 if they are running the same system I would never switch up to garbage aftermarket. Designed for the car, aftermarket is just a box with some strings hanging out of it.

so anybody found out why the range got shorter? This just happend to me and I cant lock or open the trunk without standing right beside the door. I cant even open the trunk standing right behind the car. I used my spare key thats never been used but with the same result, its not the key or battery so its probrably the reciever which i dont know where its located in the car.

The only thing I've done within this past month is install a sound system, which i think has something to do with it, but I'm not sure what.

Maffu313 Mar 4, 2009 08:17 PM

I have the same problem, but it's worse now.

When i'm in the car, with the key, the light 'KEY' on the dashboard lights up which means that the key is not detected right? but the engine can still start up =S

And also, the buttons on the outside door handle don't respond at all anymore and neither duz the button to open the trunk (near the license plate area)

Is there some sort of reason for this? will I have to go to the dealer to replace my remote?

Change your battery? Mine was nearly out when I bought my car. Bought a new battery.. No problems.

Pollywaffle Mar 5, 2009 04:59 PM

This may sound and look really dumb, but hold the buzzer against your head and press it. It gives it an increased range (your head amplifies the frequency). See what happens. If it doesn't get any longer, it could be something in the car.

Once again, I realise how stupid that sounds.

Jab Mar 6, 2009 09:28 PM

I just changed my battery a week ago and now my keyless entry stopped working again today -_-

I haven't had a chance to really look at it but it lights up when I have it open. I think it's a bad connection...but it worked fine for the last 7 days.

Actually................just hold it up to your chin. It really does work. :lol2:

Maffu313 Mar 7, 2009 08:24 PM

Tried changing the battery, holding it up to my head/chin...nothing works. So I brought it into the Mazda Dealership and they gave me an appointment for Tuesday, we'll see how that goes =)

My alarm will usually make the lights go on but sometimes for a few days the lights will do nothing then just go back to normal.

Jab Mar 8, 2009 08:11 PM

I ordered a new switchblade key from autotransponder.com. I'll see how it works out later this week hopefully.

My other one keeps "sticking", I think it has a short. Nothing like your car locking itself indefinitely while you frantically look for something to pry the keyless remote open with :banghead:

RXheart Mar 8, 2009 08:28 PM

I had the same problem with my standard 04 key. I decided to go switchblade

and the range increased further. Get this though, after I installed my Borla

exhaust the range was increased even more. Who says there are no gains from

exhaust.

Jab Mar 12, 2009 09:03 PM

Just an update... I had a flawless experience with autotransponder.com. I found the instructions to program an rx8 switchblade on wikianswers and they worked the first time and now I have a working keyless remote again :)

Maffu313 Mar 13, 2009 10:19 AM

so after giving my credit card key to the dealership to check, they said the antenna on my car was busted and it didn't recognize the keys O_o but sometimes the button on the door still works, every now and then only though.

hyang Mar 15, 2009 10:33 PM

i'm having the same problem and it's definitely a pain in the ass. :(

Exact same problem here. Both keys acting the same way. (Never use the spare) Dealer replaced and reprogrammed both keys, and nothing changed. They even replaced the car battery saying it was weak. Finally I replaced the remote battery on the key I use most, and now both work like normal again. :uhh: (Dealer wouldn't replace the remote batteries under warrenty, but they said the batteries appeared to be fine.)

Maffu313 Mar 16, 2009 07:41 AM

Well I dropped my key from the second level down to the first at home a few days ago, and now everything seems fine with my key! the red key sign is gone from the dashboard, and the buttons work again O_o kinda strange but i guess giving things a good shake do fix them =)

myriadshalaks Mar 16, 2009 08:38 AM

could be something with cell phones. i know sometimes if i keep my fob in the same pocket as my cell, it won't work and I have to hold it up to the ignition to get it working again.

Distance was limited and I thought that was the way it was supposed to be.
Distance kept getting shorter and shorter.
One day while at the supermarket, decided to replace the battery
5 bucks installed. Now my SmartKey works from inside my house, ie distance improved
note I have the SmartKey not the swithblade.
