is it just my 8??

hey guys, just wanted to ask if anyone out theree is pretty pissed off with the paint that mazda put on the 8s, it may be just me but it seems as if the paint chips pretty fast ........ok, i drive on the highway everyday but i figured for a car to be only six months old it should hold up abit longer as far as bodywork..... or maybe its due to the fact i own the pearl white edition and i notice every freakin little ding on it!!!

happens to all of us.

The day I got my car I drove it home approximately 23 miles and noticed two very small rock chips on the front when I parked it. Those are the only ones I have seen since I got the paint sealed the next day (been looking, too). I wish I would have left it there on the Sunday I got it to get it sealed right away instead of bringing it back the next day and not have any right now. Oh well.

my front bumper has more craters than the friggin' moon.

Gives me an excuse to get the MS front bumper in a year though.

If your that concerned about it consider getting a clear bra for the front.

yeah i think i migth have to get the clear bra, but just like mysql101 said, it alaso give me a reason to get a new bumper later on

Actually I have owned a large number of different cars over the years, domestic and foreign. The paint these days does not fade much but it does chip somewhat easier. The rx8 isn't any worse than the average out there. I think the fact that it is so low has more to do with the high number of chips people seem to get. Also, the car is probably driven faster than most and perhaps a little too close to the next car which will also contribute to more chips. The faster you are going the more space you have to leave because at high speed even a tiny pebble can do damage to any car's paint.

60,000 miles and no chips. I've been hit by my fair share of gravel too. I do have a couple of scratches that I haven't got around to fixing (one caused by me, by opening the door with keys in my hand...barely touched it). Gotta cut costs somewhere I guess.

I agree, the paint is pretty weak. Not imagine having a Black car

The best thing you can do is to put a good hard finish on the car like Klasse or Zaino, use nose mask (or clear bra) and increase your following distance to vehicles in front of you. Rocks don't fly around the road by themselves, they're kicked up by whatever's in front of you!

the problem isnt the nicks, it's that the paint doesn't stick too well, it comes off in flakes when it is hit with something....
