Just bought a brand new 05 RX-8

Hey guys,

My name is Fahad and I'm from Michigan. Yesterday I bought my brand new Titanium Grey with Black/Chapparal 2005 RX-8 6-speed with GT package, Appearance package and the rear spoiler. I'm goimg to take delivery of the car on this Friday. I'm extremely excited to have become part of this great community. My previous vehicle was a 2002 Celica GT-S, which had $8000 dropped in modifications. Similar to the Celica, I have great plans for the RX-8.

Now, I have searched alot on the forums here trying to figure out a few things. Mostly my concerns are with the cold start issues, flooding and the flash updates and such. It seems like flooding and the poor starts was a problem with 2004 8s and not with 2005 models. Is there anything that I should have the dealership do before I take my car off their lot. I have been reading about plugs, battery and starters needing replacement. So my question is that is this info pertinent to the 2005 models as well? If so could you please advise what I should request the dealership to do! Thanks and I will be posting pics soon!

-Fahad

p.s. I have already order the titanium grey fender strales, clear corners, stealth bulbs and the chrome fuel door for my 8, so modding has already begun and i haven't even gotten the car yet! it feels great!

Please read the material in the glove box, most of your answers are in there. After it has a few miles on it you will have trouble keeping the revs down. Enjoy!!

Welcome!

Every new member here has those same questions, a quick search will give you the answers you're looking for. Please also be prepared for some members to be very grumpy towards you for asking the same questions zillions of others have asked :)

Welcome again :)

Have your dealer make sure all the recalls and SSPs for your car have been addressed and have them trickle charge your battery (That's very low amperage) to ensure it has maximum charge before you receive it. This will greatly reduce your chances of experiencing a flood condition. Your VIN will indicate to the dealer whether all of the updates have been performed. Drive it gently at first, observing what the manual states.
Of course, let me know if there is anything I can provide you in low mileage pre-owned parts at any time in the future. I look forward to serving you someday.
Paul.

if you have the money... I'd invest in the 3M clearbra stuff, just to protect your paint

Hey, congrats and welcome!

Brand new means no way it came with snow tires. Are you going to pick up some for the remainder of the season or just gut it out and lay-low if you get a sudden storm? My whole snow wheels package set me back ~$1400, plus it took time to find a good deal on a spare set of TPMS sensors.

Just in case you didn't see the previous 5,000 discussions - you stock tires will slip like crazy on ice or snow and they're not much use on dry pavement when it's really cold out. Being in Michigan I'm sure you get the whole winter tire idea, but some folks don't realize the RX-8 comes with summer performance tires, not all-season radials. ;)

yes i'm aware of that, but i don't have to worry about that as I am moving to charlotte, nc in begining of may. Also, what if i changed all four of my tires with really good all season tires? will that solve the problem, u know i might need the traction when i come visit my parents here in michigan?

That's what I did, Avons. Not as good as snow tires but they get me around and have 90% of the grip of the originals. A good compromise for me, I live in Chicago.

yea i had avon tech m550 A/S on my celica and man they were amazing tires. i love those tires. i was thinking about getting those for the rx8. they are by far all season tires out there. before i bought them i looked at ratings and the m550 blew some of the winter tires out of the race. amazing tires. highly recommended!!
