Just bought a 2010 rx8 R3

just bought a brand new 2010 rx8 R3. i had a mazda 3 and loved it so i wanted to stay with mazda. ive always been a fan of the rx 7 and said hey why not get the 8!! test drove the gt a while back but i love the look of the R3 with all its accessories!! so i finally picked it up friday and loving every minute of it. im always looking for a reason to take it out lol. only one question i have on my mind and cant seem to find the answer to....how long must i wait to start pushing the rpm meter to 9k?? my first rotory so still learning. ive been watching alot of youtube and its killing me lol. is it the same as pistons where u gotta wait a good 3k-5k before putting that pedal to the metal?? thanks for your help!

Read your owners manual cover to cover, search, welcome to the forum... and post pics of your car or it didn't happen.

You made a great choice!!... If you check your owners manual they lay it out for you pretty good.. I am now at 14000 km on my R3 and it keeps getting better as it is breaking itself in... I varied my rpms as in the manual to ensure a good break in... I am doing my oil changes every 5000km (3000 miles) as opposed to their recommended 8000km (5000 miles).. I am in Canada and they recommend using dino oil so I am using Mobil one 5w20. I have used mobil one synthetic in all my other vehicles and I have requested to mazda that they let me use it ... Other members are using synthetic so I have read..
I have parked mine for the winter, we have 2 feet of snow that has fallen and it is minus 20 0ut and I was going through R3 withdrawals. Iwas thinking about my car all day so I figured I would check in to the forums and visit... You will enjoy your new car.. Best wishes..

Welcome!

Yes - break it in like you would a piston engined car. The owner's manual should have a recommendation. I tend to take at least a couple of thousand miles with a new car, raising my personal rpm limit as I go along. If you search the site you should find enough opinions to pick one that suits you.

Congrats as well Rodan, manual says 600miles. Racing Beat recommends up to 1000 miles not passing 4k rpm and not going over 70 mph. The hardest part in having a new R3 is the breaking-in period. The car wants to go up the rpm's but can't do it. I'm at 420miles right now and it is so sad that i can't go beyond 4k rpm. Just did a 60mile loop at Angeles Crest Highway here in L.A. Oh so fun!

as I've mentioned before all cars from a minivan to ferrari should be completely warm before beating on it/taking it to redling....

btw when the coolant temp "guage" it at normal the oil temps are probn not up yet...
