So you can consider them as "factory supplied" items by Mazda if you can what I mean if they had chose to fit them as standard. If you see those boot dampers that comes with your Mazda 3 / Axela, Mazda 6 and RX8...they are supplied by the same source. All mounting hardware are included...they were not shown on the pic as the pic was supplied to show color of dampers...no worries as they will be included with the dampers and they come as a complete set. No need to buy additional stuff...just a handy screw driver will do ! Again no modification/s needed...just a simple screw on item. Cheers :) |
I have seen a damper kit in the past that required the removal of the hood screws (which could throw off hood alignment if you were not careful) Does this one add a bracket using the hood/hinge bolts?
|
Ummm...sorry for the newb question, what are these for? Is it for the hood...if so, why should I get these since the factory ones work fine?
Teach me fellow rx8ers.... |

Teach me fellow rx8ers.... Personally, I see no need for these things since the hood is made primarily of aluminum and is very light. I would worry about some hack trying to force the hood to close and bending the aluminum. |

Mine are Jap designed specifically for the RX8 and just simple screw on job. :) |
The key though is WHERE do they screw on to the hood/bonnet? I know where almost all of these kits attach to the body (replace an existing screw about half way between the back of the engine bay and nose.)

Also: is the bracket for the dampers sandwiched between the hood itself and the stock bracket? Because if it is, then it will raise the hood like with other dampers (TEIN for instance). That's not good - the new bracket should go on top of the factory one.
Therefore, a picture of the already mounted damper would be nice - it should show a closeup of the mount. |

You mentioned above that these are from the same company that makes the dampers for the trunk of the RX8, but those are made by a company called STABILUS (http://www.stabilus.com/default_e.asp) and they are the 'Lift-O-Mat' series, basicaly a gas powered spring ( seen here ) Also damper is not the right word here, what these do is hold something up...so its a 'gas spring' a damper is to absorb vibration and stuff. Also, while they do have factorys in japan, they were founded in, and have a headquarters at Koblenz, Germany. I call hoax! |

Mazda in England offers "hood dampers". I've heard they charge around $200 installed. Doesn't look like they'd raise the hood like the Tein's.
|
i think what this guy is selling is a knock off, or the dampers from the trunk lid, in the pic G-ReX posted the dampers are ALL BLACK, in the one AMG posted its black/silver, like one ones on the trunk.
