Want to get some Cold air intake for my rx8... Specifically want something made in japan... any suggestions:icon5:

dmedz8 05-05-2011 09:57 PM

move to Japan?

rx8r3mike 05-05-2011 10:03 PM

if you are thinking that getting a japan made part is going to work better because its a Japanese car think again.

monchie 05-05-2011 10:25 PM

It's much cheaper if it's made in China

Here you go, it's only about $1,100.00 before shipping. I hope being a JDM whore is worth it to you.

My advice is get over the JDM fad early.
Young people around your age may think it's cool cause it's from Japan but it's a waste of money.

There is some very high quality stuff to be had in japan but unfortunately the cost just makes it unreasonable to buy for most. Chances are getting a full header, midpipe, catback, and intake from RE amemiya shipped to you would cost more than your RX-8 is worth.

Yeaaah, however, he's 17 and I get the feeling he's going for "JDM" not working on a quality build lol

Ah, didn't catch the age. A JDM budget is for big boys, but maybe mommy and daddy are loaded.

re:

money isin't an issue, i already saved up so much for the car (12000) and i have about 3000 left for performance parts.

bse50 05-06-2011 06:23 AM

3000$ for mods is not even a remote start for a quality build of ANY kind.
Good luck to your rx8, maybe you'll be smart and do the right things before wasting money.

RIWWP 05-06-2011 06:52 AM

$3,000 will get you one of the following:

- BHR Ignition, REmedy water pump thermostat and oil pressure pellet, BHR midpipe, and your choice of $1,500 wheels or an acceptable set of coilovers
- Acceptable coilover suspension, sway bars, BHR midpipe and ignition, and stickier tires
- Most of an engine rebuild
- OEM ignition replacement, new tires, and about 6,000 miles worth of gas.
- About 12,000 miles of gas.

Maybe you should read my new owner's thread if you haven't yet. Bolt ons don't do jack crap to this car. Just worry about getting it running right and maintained well.

You will gain FAR FAR FAR more respect on the boards for having a stock RX-8 that is really well taken care of and not wrecked than you ever will for any JDM mod.

RIWWP 05-06-2011 07:10 AM

$3,000 will get you about 3 days at a Mazda Driving school given by Skip Barber (http://www.skipbarber.com/mazdadriving.asp), for driving education that will never fade, never wear out, never needs replacement, will transfer from car to car, and has a lifetime warranty.

nycgps 05-06-2011 11:02 AM

Quality coilover sets like mine already cost almost the same as your 3K "left overs"

so yeah, your 3K is "nothing"

As much as I like JDM stuff, some thing just not worth it. Well, if our US dollars don't "suck" as much as it is then yea its not a bad idea. but for now, no thx.

BlackRX82006 05-06-2011 11:13 AM

Do like the honda guys and put a lame ass JDM sticker all over the windows. In all seriousness, don't bother looking at the "JDM" items. Way to overpriced, and as stated before, the $3,000 budget won't get you very far if you are going "JDM"

SayNoToPistons 05-06-2011 01:22 PM

My stock intake is made in Japan. I will sell it to you for $400. In all honesty, it is one of the MOST efficient JDM intakes you can buy. Great deal if you ask me.

Exactly. If OP buys my JDM OEM intake for $400, I will donate $200 to the Japanese Red Cross. So think about it, OP. Not only are you getting one of the most efficient intakes that was made in Japan, you are also helping those in need in Japan.

Simple answer to a stupid question, the car comes STOCK WITH A JDM COLD AIR INTAKE.

Open your hood and look for the black piece of plastic next to the hood latch. Remove the 6 plastic rivets using a flat head screw driver. Under there you will find a hose. That hose is part of your VFAD system. Which is also a cold air intake. Spend your money on something more usefull than replacing a cold air intake with an aftermarket hot air intake.
