jacking the can and jack stands (specific question)

I did alot of research and didn't find much on my specific questions (couldve missed it). I'm painting my rims this week but am on i budget, so i can afford the paint and hopfully 4 jack stands, but i'm gonna have to work with the factory jack. So whats the best way to get my car on stands if im having to jack it up 4 times?

Only thing i could think of is lift front wheel at a time and put it on a stand, and then move on to the back. Any better ideas?

With the factory scissor jack you'll lift one wheel at a time.
Your owner's manual shows you the jacking points:

I did mine one side at a time, 2 days.

Could barely afford the paint.
Lifted front with scissor Jack, then placed jack stand, removed wheel then went to the back, did the same.
Only reason it took as long was I had to take my wheels apart, sand and polish the lips (Oxidized), and paint the face. Took about 4 hrs each day with two friends helping.

If you are willing to do a side at a time, you can do it that way.
OR... you might be better off just buying a regular jack, and 1 stand, lifting one side, place stand. Lift other side, and just leave it on the jack. Since you aren't working under the car, you will be fine.

stock scissor jack is not designed to re-use like a thousand times.

not to mention its not a really "safe" way to hold your car in the air for extended periods of time.

:scratchhe Where did I say to keep the car lifted with the jack for an extended period of time?
You lift it, place the jack stand underneath, move onto the next wheel.
Maybe I shouldn't assume people know the obvious.

ok ran into a problem, dont have the $$$ for stands... but i have access to 4 different jacks (2 from mustangs, 1 from a buick rendevous, and 1 from my car)...seems like a bad idea to have the car lifted for a long period on 4 factory jacks...i think?

Jon316G 08-17-2009 08:25 PM

Yes... bad idea.
Can't you just borrow some jack stands from friends?

TheBurkeMan 08-17-2009 09:05 PM

if you dont have 50 bucks for jack stands you probably shouldn't be spending money to paint your rims, but who am i to judge?
