Issue with Trunk getting to hot
 

I am having a problem with the trunk of my 2005 RX8. I find if I put anything in the trunk like groceries they melt by the time I get hone. If I put golf clubs or a briefcase or luggage it is burning hot when I go to take it out. Has anyone else had any issues with the trunk with it being extremely hot? Is there anything to do for this.

where are you located? What year is yours? Have you asked the dealer about it. I was at the dealer today and they say they have never heard of it before, so there is nothing they can do. This is not normal to happen.

Bothers me too. But ya can't move the huge muffler right under the trunk, even though it has a heat sheild there is just no place the air can escape.

...maybe we can drill holes in the fake rear diffuser in the rear bumper??? That way, it won't be fake anymore and peeve me off!

its amazing how the dealer tell me they never heard of it and here already i am getting feedback on it. I did not think I was the only one with this issue. Mazda should have a recall and do something about this. Yes the trunk is small as it is but it would be nice to be able to use it in some way. Any suggestions

Look at it as a positive, it keeps my hockey gear warm in the winter!

I usually put the groceries in the back seats. Along with everything else for that matter. I don't like how the MS spoiler vibrates when I close the trunk! :)

does that mean that you avoid opening the trunk so as not to be forced to eventually close it? thats hardcore

Are you having the same problem with your trunk with the extreme heat in it? I do not like leaving things on the back seat. If a car has a trunk, you should be able to use it.

Getting a free flowing exhaust system will help a little, and your car will sound better.

Oh mine does too. I put my gym bag there. My car is usually in an uncovered parking lot during the day. When I get to the gym the lock INSIDE my bag INSIDE the drunk is usually pretty hot, as is my can of deodorant (which one day I expect to find exploded). Now that I think about it, I really shouldn't keep it in there anymore.

I've used my trunk for groceries w/o any issue. I generally use the back seats, but on those trips that result in 130-200 bucks, gotta use the trunk, too. I don't put any of the fragile/cold items in there, but that is more to keep them from getting beat up.

Also, I've filled the water container for the cooler at work, and never found it to be too hot to carry in.

Hey think of the bright sides of this.
If you have to goto a cookout and you have to bring hot food, it will stay hot by the time you get there.
If you order a pizza for take out it will still be hot by the time you get home!

And many more.. see.. its not such a bad thing.
I realized this hot trunk issue after putting a damp towel in the trunk and driving around for a hour. I opened it up to take it out and WHAM it was dry like nice and warm dry here. Its a nice perk although odd at times.

^Might be a perk in Boston in December but not so in Florida in July. ;)

perfectly normal! I already talked to my dealer, its the same thign as why the cup holders get hot..... Just got to deal with it, i Learned the hard way when my girlfriend put about 5 bags of ice in my trunk, and we drove for about 5 minutes and it was like 100 degrees out in NJ, and when we got to my house, trunk was drenched! just have to suck it up part of having a rotary!

yeah just look at the bright side,

-you can drive around AND dry your laundry at the same time
-you can keep food warm, and you can probably cook in it like a crock pot so you'll have something to eat at the end of those road trips
-you can keep your coffee hot with the cup warmers
-you can melt snow in it after you skid off the road with the stock potenzas
-you can "accidentally" lock your neighbor's annoying yappy dog in there and use heat stroke to get rid of it
-you can mummify the deer you just ran over and save money at the taxidermist...

c'mon ppl, help me think of more :)

and if you leave it in there long enough you've got deer jerky.

Montreal RX8--Do you have a BB??

We have a fairly small, un-air-conditioned trunk sitting right over the muffler and you wonder if it's supposed to get warm??

Mine is a TiGray, in Texas and Mississippi, and I've never noticed it unusually warm. Of course, I was taught as a child not to transport the ice cream in there. But the rest of the groceries go right in (for short trips).

Oh thought of another one.
-If you lose your real job, you can become a pizza delivery driver. Your "Hot Trunk" will be all the rage and hence you'll become the most indemand delivery driver EVER in your area. While making $6.00hr plus tips!! :ylsuper:

Anybody know whether if you apply Dynamat or something similar that has thermaheat shield, etc. that it will limit the temp in there? Any expert feedback on this? Something to consider...

I bet you guys could slowcook some delicious ribs in there, then you could use the cupholder to steam some veggies. :icon_droo

It is a lot of fun to crack the jokes. I do find this to be a serious problem and this it should be addressed. There must be something Mazda can do to fix this issue. Is it the rotary engine that causes this? If it is they need to do something to the trunks so we can use the trunks like we would in any other car.
