LOL that is wheel lock all car do it. Its a safety precaution

Just turn the wheel as far as you can left or right and turn the key. The steering wheel should unlock with the first click of the key.

There's no need to deliberately lock the wheel. Unless a thief disables it, it will lock as soon as they take any kind of turn. What you might do is turn the steering to one side or another before shutting the car off.

Of course, if you watch TV at all you know that car thieves rip out the ignition lock cylinder or smash their way into the steering column to disable the steering wheel lock. So it provides protection against casual old-school thieves (the gum wrapper technique) and insures visual damage for more aggressive thieves.

Won't happen so long someone doesn't try to do anything stupid like, turn the key to the off position. I recall reading a while back that the 8 power steering works on electronics and not hydraulics so in the event that your car shuts off you can still operate the steering normally.

That's correct; we have electrically augmented power steering so the 'graceful degradation' is to simply revert to non-power steering. It's like going in the way back machine to the 50's.

If I were a Civic owner I'd purposely leave it unlocked so that hopefully it would get stolen (j/k, couldn't resist).
