Instant Gas Cap

A company called Stant makes a an "instant gas cap" that does not have to be removed to refuel. Has anyone tried one of these? The part # is 41004. I am concerned about getting a"CEL", but I like the idea of this.

:eyetwitch What the hell? You think you're in F1? Too tired to twist a gas cap?

Sounds like your next step would be to pay someone part time to ride passenger just to get out and put the nozzle in the tank for you.

Just move to New Jersey, self serve is against the law so they pay people to remove the gas cap AND they pump it in for you also!!

Race fans: Fill up like NASCAR does during a pit stop.

Potentially nifty I suppose but $ better spent elsewhere imo.

Oh and if it creates a proper seal you shouldn't get a CEL

I live in Oregon where you cannot pump your own gas. About 6 months ago I got a "CEL" .I took it to the dealer and the problem was that gas station attendents had banged up the gas tank opening so bad that it had chewed up the gas cap. They had to sand down the opening to make it smooth again and replace the gas cap. It was not covered under warranty and it was alot more expensive than a
<$20 gas cap.

I just wanted to know if anyone had used one , and if they maintained enough pressure so I would not get another CEL.

I appreciate the previous answers(sorta), but I am still wondering if this is a solution to prevent this from happening again.

yeah as long as it's sealed correctly there should not be a cel but a twist of the wrist is not too hard for me but as long as it seals correctly everyting should b ok....

we're spoiled and we LIKE IT

I'd think that there would be a higher chance of failure with a self-sealing cap..

CyberPitz 07-19-2008 07:19 PM

Yeah, I talk to a girl in jersey, and she always talks about how people fill up for her, and she has no idea how to do it.

I just /facepalm all the way to town :p

And if you had one of those caps, what are the odds of the pump jockeys even noticing it? Bet most would just take of off like a regular cap.

jersey is a strange place...

Razz1 07-20-2008 02:07 AM

Ja, arm pits are strange.

laythor 07-20-2008 12:31 PM

since it's 20 bucks, buy it and let us know if it works

The only plus side to this in NJ is not having one of our wonderful gas attendants letting our gas caps hang there
