Installing DSC and TCS?
 

Sorry, I don't know if anyone had posted anything about the DSC and TCS but I will ask anyway.

I have the GS model and it doesn't have the DSC / TCS. Does anyone know if these features can be installed and how much would I have to pay. If installing them is possible, does anyone know where can I get them installed other than Mazda. I am not a mechanic or an expert in automobiles but I think the work will involve somekind of control software modification as well.

I really wish that I have brought the GT instead of the GS model.

Don't take this as a definitive answer and I can't ask directly either as in the UK all our cars come with DSC installed, but I would be very surprised if it can be retrofitted as I would assume that none of the monitoring devices or control software have been installed in the car during build and as such would be, if it's even possible, an exceptionally expensive addition.

If you feel DSC is essential, I would even go so far as to suggest you could probably trade in your GS for a new GT for less of a hit than the cost of a retrofit.

GS? What model is that?

Over here in the states...

Base = Stripped...6 speed model has: 18" rims, sports suspension, LSD, and larger front rotors. A/T get's jacked: 16" rims, and ya...

Sports Package: Xenon lights, DSC w/ TCS on the 6 speed. A/T gets everything the 6 speed had in base trim, with Xenon lights, and DSC w/ TCS.

Touring Package: Everything from sports package, homelink mirror, and moon roof.

Grand Touring: Everything from Touring, heated-leather-powered seats, and heated side rear view mirrors.

I know this is an old thread, but is it possible to install a DSC and TCS onto a base RX8?

Possible? yes. But very, very, expensive and not worth it. It would be cheaper to trade your in for one with DSC. Many components need to be changed.

no. you will have to add many things to make it work.

Its really NOT worth it. because you have to swap pretty much all sensors, wires, computers to the car.

might as well just sell and buy a new one. or turn the no DSC car into a Track only car.

dsc/tc is a crutch, you're doing yourself a favor learning to drive without it.

Only reason I had thought about getting DSC is because my RX8 will be my year round daily driver. I live in Utah and winters can be pretty brutal.

Guess I will just have to drive very slowly and possibly get studded tires....

BTW your car looks great 9KRPM, id love to get my velocity red to look like that :) I need some foglights :)

I just bought my base 8 with the 6 spd. No dsc. I live in Utah too.. Guess winter will be interesting.. I worry more about the salt here eating everything to shit then I do about wreaking.

I live in Chicago and have a base 6 speed, no DSC, with some good all season tires it hasn't been any problem at all. optionally you can get some snow tires like blizzaks, but I haven't bothered.

6spd with no DSC/TCS here in CT, driven daily, even in the winter, no big deal.

I also live in Utah, and have had the pleasure of driving my 8 as a DD all last winter. Initially I was worried, but as soon as I got the feeling of the car and its handling on ice/snow/slush, I realized it handled as well (if not better) than the majority of compact cars on the road.

I live in Edmonton, way far north. It took me forever to find a nice RX-8 with no tcs/dsc and no sunroof, I use it as a daily driver and it will sub in for my 944 Turbo track car if its ever down for repairs in the summer. I've driven in canadian winters for 20 years, I've only ever owned one car with traction/stability control, our other current daily a 2009 impreza. You don't need those systems, just drive appropriately for the weather conditions and fit proper tires for the season.

With proper snow tires you'll be fine.
