installing 8000k bulbs

My new 8000k xenon bulbs just came in the mail today. Thought it would be a simple thing to install the new bulbs. I couldn't be more wrong.

First, had to peel the fender liner back by taking all of those damn clips off. Freakin clips are damn near impossible to take off (some wouldn't come off...I had to break them), and when I finally peeled the fender liner back the damn wheel was in the way. I turned the housing counter clockwise to take it off, but still wouldn't come off.

I then had the bright idea to check the owners manual again. I must have skipped over the part that says "for low beam xenon bulbs, do not install yourself. Have a authorized dealer do it for you" and refused to give more instructions. :wallbash:

The question for you guys who have installed your own headlight bulbs is this: should it really be this hard? It is possible to install the xenon bulbs myself (as long as I'm sure they're compatable?)

Tried a search as well as the DIY forum, but absolutely no luck. Thought I'd post this here as the DIY section is hardly ever looked at. Thanks in advance!

you should be able to DIY... you have to remove the wheels and the fender liner to gain acess to the back of the headlight housing. gl!

on those clips, it sometimes helps to stick a tiny (like eyeglass-repair size) screwdriver into the seam where the clip pops away from its base and pry on it.

Dude, thanks a lot for finding these. I couldn't locate them at all when I tried searching. Appreciate it!

I got them off of ebay. They claim to be a direct replacement for the regular HID bulbs (4300k).

Offer a 1 year warranty on them too. Check it out:

Yeah, I was successful on a couple like this, but I ended up breaking 2 others trying to pry them off.

I freakin hate those things.

LOL - ive become a fastner expert over the years. At first i hated it, but once you figure it out its really simple. I think ive taken off the bumper over 7 times already.

I hope to never have to take them off again. I broke 5 of them, and damaged most of the other ones getting them off.

Was able to install the bulbs today, though. Much easier to get inside once I took the wheels off. The bulbs snapped right into place, which is good because I was worried about them not fitting at all (one of the other threads said the Japanese bulbs were too long). Turned the lights on, and they work fine.

For most of these clips you just need to figure out how they work. Make sure the ones with the Phillips you hold in place with one finger while you rotate the inside with the screwdriver. The center should pop out, once you back that out from the outer section you should be able to easily remove the whole clip. The ones with out the Phillips work a similar way. You should be able to use a small Flathead to pry up the center. If you have trouble getting the clip out once the center is out all the way some small pliers helps a lot. You want to grasp it as low as possible.

If you turn your wheel all the way out you should be able to get to your low beams and high beams easy, and shouldn't have to take your wheel off. I've replaced my low beams twice... going for High beams soon. Also if you want while you are there you might as well remove the front liner, and modify the vents while you have it off if you want.
