Installed alum. passenger foot rest

Well I broke down and bought this since I didn't want the girlfriend putting her feet up on the dash on long trips or when she can't sit still.

This is still set up for the RHD cars, but with a little rigging you can get it to work. It took me about an hour to put in the illuminated shifter, and about 3 hours to figure this out and put it in place. I had to replace the bolts it came with sheet metal screws and a few lock washers, but its in.

Its actually pretty comfortable, and I just hope it helps keep the feet off the dash. No matter how many times I tell her, hey, feet down she still spaces out. Old habits are hard to break.

another shot

oooohhh...... that gets right under my skin when people try to pull that feet on the dash thing.... a little bit of respect for people's property seems to be hard to come by these days

That foot rest is pretty cool. I would of never thought of that. Does it actually make it more comfortable for the passenger?

Where'd you get it and how much did it cost? Can you take some pictures of where you bolted/screwed it place? The thought of drilling holes into my car scares me.

Also, does the passenger lose much leg room? It looks like it's pretty high off the back slope and floor.

I like the idea, though!

Put some charcoal under it and you got yourself a foot bbq! :D

It looks nice-- my ex-girlfriend use to put her feet up on the dash in my Millenia to mess with me or what not-- one day someone hit the side of the car in the front right quarterpanel--later that day she put her feet up there to see what I'd say--I was like, "You see the front of this car smashed up there--you think I care about your feet on tha dash?"

Not to mention that if the airbags go off with feet on the dash it could get ugly.

Well when I sat there for a bit after putting it in, it was nice, sort of like the foot rest on the driver side. I'm 6'-2" and the chair wasn't all the way back and I had plenty of room. The foot rest looks like its closer than what it is, but its back there.

I did a search for it on the internet and didn't come up with anything. What did it cost? If not too expensive, I might get one and cover it with black carpet to match the interior. I think it would be pretty nice for passengers. I find it uncomfortable as a passenger because I'm always fidgeting with my legs/feet to get comfortable.

I'm editing this to include a "bright" idea -- I've got a million of them, but rarely act on them :(

I'm going to take a look down there tomorrow and see what it would take to make a wooden version that I could hold down with velco or some other type of temporary fasteners.

Might save me some money and I could fit it so no one would even notice its there.

That footrest is available at Japanparts for $200. Right now they are technically designed for the left side passenger like japan's cars. But it looks like it fits nicely in the U.S. right side passenger area. I've been thinking about getting one myself.

How are you going to clean under that thing?

MyRxBad 06-24-2004 08:46 AM

Instead of putting one of those in the Rx-8, you should have just told her to move the seat forward and use the one that's built into the car. This would also solve your "feet on the dash" problem as well.

wow, I fell for the 4 year old thread revival...why the heck revive this thread?

kersh4w 12-21-2008 03:18 PM

i would bitch smack anyone that dared put their feet up on my dash.

BHR has a couple of prototype aluminum footrests to replace the "dead pedal"/footrest on the driver's side. I just haven't had a chance to ballyhoo it too much nor decide on a price yet.

kersh4w 12-21-2008 03:45 PM

whats wrong with the current footrest?

I had a couple people request them made of aluminum as they broke their factory plastic units while track-racing their cars.

kersh4w 12-21-2008 04:23 PM

huh, thats definitely not something you want breaking on the track.

pieces of plastic behind the brakes at 110mph! fun stuff!
