Im the Newb....

Well guys i would first like to say Hi and this looks like a great forum. I live in Dallas Texas and i actually have a 04 rx8 (52k miles) in my possession which i plan on buying today however i had some questions. I noticed this red light come on twice while driving, the light is located below the oil temp gauge and looks like a intercooler or a old radiator and im not sure if this is normal or not for it to come on. Here is the carfax on the car so you guys can let me know if it looks like the car is up to date and if not what recalls am i missing?
http://www.carfax.com/cfm/ccc_Displa...FE173440130337

Thanks guys and i look forward to being a fellow 8 owner

Doesn't sound normal, probably low coolant?

which means the coolant could be leaking into the rotors which sets me up for a prime opportunity to take advantage of the 100k 8 yr engine swap?

Or it could be the sensor.
I have seen plenty of people start threads about the coolant light. Seems the sensor is overly sensitive.

Make sure it is topped off

There are actual marks on the reservoir bottle.............."F" and "L". Might be hard to see, but find them.
If you have a manual for the car, look on page 8-16.
If not, then make sure the car is cool when adding, the radiator itself should be full, and then the coolant level in the reservoir should be between the "F" and "L" mark. (Again..........when it's cool)

Ok i just couldnt see them earlier, thanks for the heads up. Yea it was a little low and i just found the dealer invoice showing they filled the car with 10-30 instead of 5w-20 and the oil level was just above half way so im curious as to if the 10-30 is going to be problem and if not is it ok to just add 5w-20 or should i just drain the oil and refill with 5w-20 and just repeat 3k miles later?

Sorry for all the newb questions and i really do know how to use the search button but im just in a hurry right now since im trying to get as much info before going back to the dealer.

Thanks

All the dashboard lights come on, every time you start the car. That way you don't have to identify from memory.

Hey Spoolin, once you fill it up just keep an eye on it. When you drive the car hard it can sometimes cause the light to come on even though it's not low which indicates the sensor might be bad. Once it's full if it keeps coming it's probably the sensor. If you need any help I'm up in Plano just north of Dallas. Mine started coming on a few weeks ago when I would go WOT but it would go off shortly after, it was low, once I filled it the light hasn't come on since.

So when i do my next oil change should i use like castrol syntec full synthetic 10-30? Ive read several threads were people argue against synthetic for rotaries but i have yet to find a good clear answer, here are some pics of the car and basically what is going to come down to is whether i can get a loan with a good apr in todays market.

i found another red one that is a little cheaper and has less miles but it does not have a spoiler or the red/black interior which i love. Basically after my current trade in (4,000 value) i looking to pay around 12k but with the current interest rate its saying ill be paying 16k overall so im trying to get a good deal.

When I get my oil changed I always specify 5w-20 non-synthetic. When you initially go in and get the paperwork for the guys to change the oil there is usually a comments/special request section. I always write down 5w20 non synthetic in this section to cover myself and make sure they put what I want in there. When I request this I have never been questioned by anyone to try and make me put something else in.

Ok well i just found a 05 red one that just went up for sale for 1k cheaper with only 28k miles and a clean carfax report. The car is the velocity red which i am fine with and still has the red/black interior which i love but has no spoiler and im not sure but the rims may be smaller but look exactly the same. So i guess how much is the stock spoiler for the 8 or any other ones that look good.

The spoiler is around 3-400?? I think? If the wheels are the smaller 16's it might be an auto rather than 6spd.

well i am wrong about the wheels then because its def a manual. It just does not have the same lip spoiler as the black one so im guessing its the same as the black one just does not have the appearance package.
