Ignition Coil & Catalytic Converter

Hello Pplz..

My first post here.. Very Informative.. Cheers to all concerned for your efforts :ylsuper:

I've just imported an RX-8 to Pakistan.. 6 speed... done 30,000 kms with a Blitz intake system.. just for the heck of being safe got plugs, fuel filter and disc pads changed... btw.. no Mazda dealers here and i had to import all the parts..

CEL light turned on a few days ago.. comp says Ignition Coil #4 needs to be replaced.. Pplz, is this issue common? RX has had complete power failure 4 times now.. All were on one trip on the motorway and with almost 50 kms exact distance separation.. Related? Due to high ambient temps? For all ya there in Texas, ever had the same problem?

Secondly, since the emission standards are not strictly followed here, should i take the catalytic converter out? Will i get some power boost? Lesser problems as well, perhaps?

Would appreciate your comments

If you take the catalytic converter out, you will get a few HP more (maby ~5hp).

As far as the coil packs, they can/do fail in very high temps. Here in orlando FL, I drive around with the A/C on in the summer, and in stock/go traffic with 105* ambient temps I have seen under hood temps get close to 200* with 230* coolant temps. I havent had a coil-pack problem, but I know other people in Arizona and Texas have.

Coils failure in hot weather is pretty common, try to improve underhood cooling as much as you can. As for the cat I would switch it out as soon as possible for a free flow or a straight pipe (if you can stand the droning).
