Ideal RPM to shift? Oil changes

Hi, i'm 16 and bought my rx-8 three months ago. I maintain my car well and was wondering if i could get some answers from more experienced rotary drivers.

When my father taught me how to drive a stick he said shift at 3500 but i typically go a little before 5000. I recently read that you're supposed to rev it high like this guy http://www.ehow.com/how_6374395_driv...azda-rx_8.html says go to 7500?.

Also, the dealer i purchased my car from gave me free oil changes for life every 6 months/ 5000 miles. Is that too long to wait or is it just me?

Any help on these questions would be great plus any other tips for driving/maintenance.

Well youre suppose to check your oil every other gas fill up, RX-8's burn oil so unlike your normal car, youre going to need to add oil every so often. as far as shifting, it depends how you want to drive.
Youre suppose to redline the car atleast once a day to prevent carbon build up, but if youre looking to save gas, shift before 3-4k, if you feel like driving fast, shift 5k and up.

There is no set rpm to shift at, since every car is different and has different redline, especially on a rotary engine.

Im 16 as well, got my rx8 in January. Ive put a lot of money into maintaining it so far, already a few thousands and i havent even been able to mod yet so good luck, and i hope the previous owner took car of it unlike my previous owner did >.> (Unless you bought it new)

Oh and lucky me, today my clutch blew out. there goes another 400$.

Shift at 10,000.

General rule of thumb; keep it under 4k rpm until sufficiently warmed up (5-10 minutes of driving). After that, go up to eleventy-k.
