Had to do it. I was getting about 14 mpg, no matter how I drove it. Went shopping today for a replacement. I wanted something fun while still getting good mpg. Ended up between a BMW Z4 and an Audi 225 quattro TT. Ended up getting the Audi. Was reluctant at first as my mother used to own a VW product and had troubles with it, but I did some research and it appears the late model TT's are very reliable. Curb weight is about the same as the 8, but I think whp may be a bit higher. With one simple chip you can add 50ish hp and 65ish lb/ft of torque, while actually improving mpg numbers. Already had aftermarket wheels on it with Yokohama tires. The interior on these things is like a work of art. Oh, and I got 360 miles on the last tank(14.5 gal. tank), and that was driving it like I stole it. Sorry guys, I'll miss the 8 i'm sure, but I was having way to many problems with it, and I just couldn't afford to drive it anymore...

good choice in cars me and the wife looked at them but were both too tall and felt very cramped but someone 5'6 or shorter i bet it would be a dream they are put together very well

I didnt pay a thing, they payed for everything, mileage was the exact same as the 8, but it was two years older. The paint was in flawless condition, better than my eight.

ok i asked what was the trade in value of your 8 how much did they give you for it? even if they came out to be the same price what was the price on the audi that the 8 was traded evenly for

and options what was in it leather seats? navigation? sun roof? GT package? i hope you brought someone with you when u were car shopping lol no offense to you but just dont sound like a car person

I've been looking at selling mine too, but I can't right now because the resale on the 8 is so horrible (just one more reason I don't think I'll ever buy another rotary). The 8 is fun to drive, but it just isn't worth it to me to own a car that hemhorrages fuel mileage but doesn't have the umph to justify it.

From owning a previous rotary... I knew about the crappy mileage... and I knew about flooding , and putting the oil in, etc etc...

I couldn't deal with the mindless stalling in the middle of the freeway issues.

I still love the look of the 8, and the way it handles on curvy roads... Stalling = no no.

I dont get the bad gas mileage thing.
I drove my 06 from full to perfectly on the E line and that was 302 miles.
I was just wondering if i could make the 300 mark.

ya i get like 21 mpg highway about 17 city not too bad

Enjoy the Audi. I think they're good cars. I like the Z4, too, but vacillate on whether or not I like the styling (somedays yes, somedays no).

Trade in on the 8 was about 16-18k, depending on what condition they said it was in. However, it was rearended by a dumptruck to the tune of 7k in damage, so I thought I would be lucky to get that. The kbb on the audi was 19.5, I walked away with them paying for taxes and tags and doc fees($1079 total) and me paying absolutely nothing. Both were optioned the exact same. My 8 was the newest car I have ever driven, unfortunately it proved to be the most unrealiable also. Nothing major, just minor things, then their was the mpg thing.

Interestingly enough, they never asked about the accident. It makes me wonder if they even checked, if they did surely they would have asked about that?

EDIT: Around town the Audi is much smoother. However at absolute limits the two different personalities of the 8 and the TT are obvious. The TT exhibits obvious understeer, while the 8 exhibits oversteer(at least when compared to the Audi). The Audi stays planted like a rock, while the rear of the 8 can break lose if you tell it too. So for an experienced driver, the 8 is probably much more fun to drive, for the unexperienced driver the Audi is probably a bit safer choice.

I get 13.7 mpg..... in my brand new 2006 Maxima (according to its trip computer).

So, what's the problem with RX-8 getting 14 mpg ??!!??

Wish I got 14mpg, I average 11.5 to 12.5mpg. The gas mileage will defiantly get this car traded in before its time.

Impossible, I would check your calculations. I would take an average over 4-5 fills.

I bet some people are not doing it right when calculating mpg.

BunnyGirl, on the other side of the fence, 23 mixed sound a bit too good to be true. But then again, if it's an auto and you don't rev much, it could be possible.

The last time I checked mine, I was at around 18.5 50/50 hwy/city split - this was when the vehicle was almost brand new. Maybe it gets a bit better as you go on.

If people are doing it wrong, they're retarded. It's really not hard. Face it, the car has shitty fuel economy.

I think it's been confirmed Raptor75 gets 12 mpg, and Bunny gets 23. Bunny also has a 2006 MT.

I get 19, 70%ish city, 30%ish highway, but got 17.5 mpg before the dealer put in the new plugs and battery.

Well then, between 19-23, is not that bad. I too have a 2006 MT (Shinka). I know different driving styles will drive different results. I will re-check my numbers early fall to see if they changed from brand new car to a properly broken-in car.

I have a 04 mt and avg about 16.5, then again I shift around 5rpm. On a long road trip I can get 21-22 and that's all highway driving.
